Very impressive kit for a beginner
I just got this in the post, and I'm very excited! I heard about an experiment some guy was doing, in which he was training crows to use an Arduino-control contraption in order to get food. That sounds incredibly interesting to me, so I decided to do something similar. But first, I have to figure out what I'm doing...There are so many great things to play with and learn with. The best part is that it includes a link to a "getting started" guide that includes a graphical parts list. I'm very novice to electronics, so many of the components (did I mention there were a LOT of components?) are unknown to me. I downloaded the software, plugged it into my Mac, and fired it up. So far, I've just tested a few of the components, but everything is working perfectly. The Mega unit isn't actually Arduino brand, but it doesn't seem to matter. I had to install one extra driver, but otherwise it works fine with the Arduino software. This kit had several pieces that the "real" Arduino kits don't, and that was one of the key decision factors in choosing this one. The other key factor being the price/stuff ratio. I'm looking forward to working through the rest of this kit.The one thing that would make this package absolutely perfect... some kind of storage box to put all the parts in. They came in a large antistatic bag... most were also in their own bags, also, but a couple were loose. And with all the small parts -- resistors, transistors, capacitors, LEDs, etc. -- it would be great to have somewhere to keep them organised. But that can be easily had at any craft store, so it's not a huge problem. Still a wonderful kit, especially for the price.

Great kit, it really gives you the freedom to put most ideas to work and experiment with many different types of inputs/outputs.Fantastic customer service! - my kit ended up having a small defective part - I reached out to the supplier and they went above and beyond. They were kind enough to not only mail out a replacement part the next day but added a couple small items as an Apology/Thank You. I would have no reservations about ordering further components from the same supplier.Great 'bang for the buck' - I think it would have cost me significantly more to try and build this kind of inventory piece by piece.I had some C++ programming experience from college, and I enjoyed being able to build electronics and apply that programming knowledge.I read some other negative reviews - but they seem to be frustrated with Arduino in general - and not this specific kit.Arduino isn't difficult, but it isn't easy either. If you know absolutely nothing, it will take a lot of time and patience to learn enough about circuits, components, and programming to be able to utilize this kit. If you already have some basic programming or electrical circuit knowledge I think you will be able to learn quickly with this kit - and the Arduino ecosystem in general makes things go together seamlessly from building the circuit to programming/debugging and transferring the programs.

Disappointed
1.- TP229 16 button touch sensor missing2.- MAX7219 malfunction ( I tested every single led in the matrix and they work. Matrix installed properly. Test program runs ok in some rows but 6 other rows stay ON all the time).3.- IR flame sensor malfunctioning. It doesn't matter the conditions, or the position of the potentiometer, the analog output is almost 5V all the time.I'm not an Arduino beginner guy. I bought this kit for a family member. It is not a great starter kit mainly due to the documentation. It's a copy paste kind of deal. It does provides you with links but that's pretty much it. You don't need a Mega to start with. A good starter kit is the original Arduino starter kit; 20 or 30 dollars more expensive but it comes with a book and it is supported by the official arduino site. The book doesn't go deep in details (beginner book) but it does tell you "what" "how" and "why" is doing what is doing. It give you ideas for your own projects and challenges you pushing you to go further. RIAspire kit doesn't. As I said: copy paste.Going back to the RIAspire kit... The price is fair. The parts are ok (the ones that aren't missing and work properly) and they cover a wide range of applications which is great!! That was what I was looking for. I give it 3 stars. I discounted one for missing parts/malfunctioning components and another star for the shady documentation (basically a pdf full of links).I'm sorry dudes@RIAspire. I really liked your introduction letter and o would love to give you 5 stars. Maybe next time...SincerelyDude@home

Great kit to start out with when you have nothing yet
This kit has many items in it that will immerse a newbie into Arduino. That initial success and confidence is important early on as many in a new hobby will quit if frustrated. As I went through the tutorial and checked the parts list I noticed something was missing...and I had an extra unidentified part. I email the customer service and was promptly answered that an item was out of stock so a similarly priced item was substituted. I looked back at the downloadable tutorial again and seen that it had been rewritten and updated.

Great starter kit - many components to choose from. Satisfy a wide variety of interests.
This kit is great for anyone interested in starting out. I have been in the electronics/computer/software industry for 20 years and I wanted something for my 16 year old grandson. He dove right in. Once the setup was complete and working properly, it was easy to build and modify circuits and create a variety of projects. I would recommend this kit to anyone who is shopping for a practical, inexpensive, yet very complete starter kit.

Excellent
Excellent, fits the raspberry perfectly. Initially I thought that the fans were going to make a lot of noise but it was not like that, they are rather silent. dissipates heat very well.
