The lift must be staggered a bit to one side to allow its wheels to fit with one lift wheel inside the wheelchair outrigger and the other outside the wheelchair outrigger. This makes for a difficult process for patients to lift themselves out of their wheelchair and hold a standing position until the lift seats are set. My sister can make the maneuver, but it is not easy. No problem with her commode, hospital bed or furniture chairs. **Q: We also have a very short patient and are interested in more information on modifying it for a proper fit.** A: The Lumex 1600 can be dangerous for short patients if used only with the seat pads, since they do not have locks.
