Should I buy this over a smaller set of Magna-Tiles (for the same price)? Would I get the same quality?

I am sorry. I am not familiar with the Magna-Tiles. I cannot compare the two. I only know that my 4 year old grandson--soon to be 5 plays with them a lot. It is hard to keep his attention on anything for very long but these he will build and build and build. He did have one set of the Picasso (60 pieces) but he wanted to build bigger things so I got him a second set. I am not sure if smaller set would satisfy these young minds.

suitable for 2 year old?

I just gave this to my son who was turning 3. If you have a kid who loves to build they will love these - even if they are 2. They can have help with these in the beginning and grow in their skills as they get older.
