Located in the heart of pottery country in Seagrove, North Carolina, Ray Pottery is handmade by the husband and wife team of Paul and Sheila Ray. All their work is either wheel thrown, slab built or extruded. It's then kiln-fired to 2350 degrees Fahrenheit. The glazes are applied by a combination of dipping and spraying. Their stoneware glazes include Ash, created from pine and oak ashes collected from a wood-burning kiln which lend subtle colors and mottled surface effects. Also used is Copper Red, achieved by adding a small amount of copper carbonate and tin oxide to the glaze and then firing it in a reducing atmosphere. Copper reds were first developed by Chinese potters over 1000 years ago and were commonly referred to as oxblood. Ray Pottery's rich colors and interesting textures will make a beautiful presentation in the kitchen, dining room and throughout your home.
