I would say it’s more like 4mm thick. However, it’s certainly holding up fine after several fires last winter. If the grate fits into your fireplace, I would definitely recommend.

Hi can this be used inside a brick pizza oven?

Hi yes you could . It’s a bit small for a regular pizza. It might only fit a side plate size Pizza.

Is this ok to use smokeless coal?

I bought one of these fire grates in December 2020 as we have a large open fireplace. Fuel is mainly dried logs from our wood but occasionally supplemented with some smokeless fuel. Unfortunately the ‘heavy duty grate’ did not do well and over the winter of 2020/21 and by April 2021 had lost some of its spars leaving wide gaps through which logs and fuel would fall. I outed the grate in Autum 2021 and replaced with a medieval style fire basket which I bought from a local reclamation yard for £35. - so far so good. To answer your question, if you heat the grate too much , especially with coal, anthracite etc. you will probably get warping and eventually melting similar to a blacksmith’s furnace effect. This was my experience of the grate and you may well have a different experience- it will take smokeless fuels but with the above provisos.
