One out of two turned moldy
I purchased two of these (one for my husband and one for myself) to take with us on walks and just to have around the house and I'm a little disappointed. I searched for a long time trying to find a water bottle without the spout you pull up or the one you have to bite and settled on this version because of the reviews. They do work and seal well (no leaks even when upside down in a backpack or diaper bag). However my bottle top has molded! I saw the review where the person complained about their top molding and I thought "no way that person regularly washed that bottle" but I'm no longer feeling that way. I have the beet red version and my husband has the blue and even with regular washing (by hand and dishwasher) his still looks the same and my cap has developed ridiculous mold that no amount of scrubbing/bottle brushes/soaking/etc. will get rid of. The bottles perform well but I am definitely giving them only three stars because of the mold problem. I've included a picture so you can see what I'm talking about (it's after being in the dishwasher, hand scrubbing, and letting it soak). Maybe it's the color I chose (I sometimes use my husband's and it's never gotten moldy so it can't just be me lol)?

OTF cap plug grows mildew and is impossible to get clean
I need to be contacted by Nalgene for a replacement OTF cap. The small, soft plug in the cap which prevents leaks grew mildew spots on it, despite regular washing by hand and washing in the dishwasher with the two cap pieces separated. In addition to regular washing, I attempted to get the mildew off by boiling the soft plug in water, soaking in vinegar, scrubbing with a toothbrush and was unable to get the mildew spots off / get the cap plug clean - so it was finally just thrown out. This leaves the OTF bottle useless as it leaks terribly (more like dumps water, not leaks) when the small plug piece is not inserted into the cap. This is my second OTF cap and it did not occur with the first one on a wide mouth bottle (I lost the bottle, otherwise I'd still be using it). I really like Nalgene bottles and have had various sizes; every one of my family members has a Nalgene bottle. We're happy with the other bottles and mildew growth is not a problem on those others. I refuse to accept that I have to use filtered water in my bottle in order to avoid mildew growth - there should be no problem in cleaning via normal methods. Way too much money was spent on a new well at my home to warrant the purchase of filtered water in order to use a Nalgene water bottle!

Moldy cap
I had one of these for 4 years and never had an issue. After dropping it multiple times the lid no longer closed which prompted me to purchase this new one. It is impossible to clean the mold around the lid. It’s gross. I’ve soaked it in water, vinegar, scrubbed with a sponge, qtip or knife - NOTHING works. It’s pretty gross. I have purchased a different bottle and would not buy this again

This is a no brainer purchase. Best bottle for the price and value.
I'm currently purchasing my 9th and 10th bottles and am compelled to add my 2 cents about these great bottles because I have lots of experience using them.--I read complaints about the lid, saying it's difficult to close. I have NEVER had this problem. I open and close it with my thumb, while driving or walking. It does not take two hands (ok, maybe for a child, it would).--I read complaints about the inside of the flip-top lid getting moldy, specifically the squishy seal inside the spout cover. If have NEVER had this problem. Granted, I live in a very dry area of the country. The inside of the lid can get a little 'slimy' after a few days but then I rinse it out and dry it with a paper towel. It's super easy to clean between washings.--I've read complaints about the bottles breaking when dropped. I have NEVER had this problem. I've dropped my bottles dozens and dozens of times. These bottles don't leak or break. I have found the quality to be consistently good. My only somewhat negative comment is that the plastic can get scratchy looking and the older bottles get cloudy. Ok. Fine. Time to buy a new one. The price is right so that is not a problem. Thanks, Nalgene!

Fancy cap that cracked after 2 months =/
The bottle cap developed a crack after two months of routine use (2-3 visits to the gym per week). Due to the crack, the bottle now leaks liquid. I am pretty disappointed in the quality and durability of this product. Perhaps I just received a dud, I do not know. Amazon didn't do much to help with the problem. I contacted Nalgene and I am awaiting their response.

No leaks & easy to clean
I bought 5 of these bottles to help me track my daily water consumption. I've tried other brands but prefer these On The Fly bottles best. Thanks to the wire "latch" I can throw this into my work bag and not worry about it leaking. The lid already locks firmly but the latch gives you that extra peace of mind that anyone who has ruined a phone or a laptop with another water bottle can understand.Unlike Camelback bottles, this has an open mouth which lets you drink without sucking the water up a straw. If you were worried about tip-over while it's open, then Camelback or Contigo's new no-spill bottles might be a better choice. I prefer this design since you can use it more easily while wearing lipstick and it's MUCH easier to clean than the Camelback. When you're on the trail or traveling, a small carabiner keeps this bottle cliped to your bag and doesn't fall off when the bottle is open, thanks to the wider shape of the cap (this is more obvious when you see the bottle).Of course there's no insulation in this bottle, so for drinks that need to stay cold or hot, I use my Hydroflask products. But for keeping water handy, this is my favorite choice!
