What a wonderful series of books
I love everything about this book. The story is engrossing, the illustrations are wonderful. I never heard of these historical females and I am so glad that this book exists. It gives hope and inspiration to girls of all ages. This is a keeper for any library and I hope is read by boys and girls.

Graphic Illustration of torture
This review is for the three books: Qutlugh Terkan Khatum of Kirman, Isabella of Castile, and Sacajawea of the Shoshone from the series "The Thinking Girl's Treasury of Real Princesses" by Shirin Yim Bridges. My mom bought my 8 year old daughter several of the books from the series The Thinking Girl's Treasury of Real Princesses after my daughter and I read the book about Sacajawea that was in our local library. I liked the one about Sacajawea, but I definitely was shocked by the content of "Qutlugh Terkan Khatun of Kirman". It has a graphic picture of torture and a graphic description of killing prisoners by sewing them in sacks, building a dance floor over them, and then dancing on them until they were crushed to death (see attached image). These books are marketed for children 8-13 years old I believe. I was disappointed because I love reading history books to my kids, especially when they include stories about women. This book could have left out the detailed violence and it would have been wonderful. I also received the book in the series "Isabella of Castile" and am returning that one as well. It was OK, nothing violently graphic, I just wasn't super impressed with the tone of the writing. I do recommend the one about Sacajawea.
