excellent
I download this book back in April 2022…I read a bunch of Geneen Roth books Earlier this year and they helped a lot. This one stayed on my Kindle until now December 2022. It was exactly what I needed to feel validation for my behaviors that I want to change. Turned to food as a coping mechanism and stressors get high in my life and it’s nice to feel you’re not alone and others have struggled with something very similar. I highly recommend this book to anyone it’s sort of opens you up in a way to make you realize that you are the answer. You can change and that you’re not alone.

Compassionate advice w/ lots of humor
I bought this book when it was first published in 1998. While I may not always follow Roth’s advice, I find her suggestions practical and fun and inspiring. In fact, I usually reread “When you eat...pull up a chair” once a year. This copy was purchased for a dear friend with similar issues.

A chance to read something different.
This is a great book. I suggest it in my Bookstore all the time for anyone who wants to read something a little different. The view on loving your body and how you see food is unlike most diet and health books. This is more about the mind. It's told with humor and love. My suggestion is that, if you do like it, pick up other books by Mrs. Roth. All are well written and give an interesting perspective.

This is a gem!
What a great gift Geneen Roth has given us. As a diet coach, I have recommended (and gifted) this book to many clients who are overeaters. It's light and easy reading and basically reminds us that we should love ourselves above all else. Each chapter is warm, humorous, or touching, as Roth comes up with ways we can treat ourselves well without using food as a comfort or reward. We can dress ourselves nicely, use the expensive dishes or perfumes just because--and not wait for a special occasion, or eat what we like and simply savor it instead of feeling guilty. For everyone who struggles with overeating, this book is a reprieve and a friend; Roth is someone who understands what you are going through and is there to gently nudge you into taking good care of yourself as the first step to overcome your dependency on food.

This is a great little book with an interesting and appealing perspective
This is a great little book with an interesting and appealing perspective. The author talks about topics like the emotions behind over-eating and how to overcome an aversion to "exercise". The best part is that it is done in a most helpful, non-judgmental way - nothing rigid or formal about these ideas and suggestions. And it is done with a really great sense of humor, rare in a book about weight and dieting.

Good viewpoint, but disappointing conclusion
I have read many of Geneen Roth's books. I liked her take on eating and dieting. However, this book was not what I expected. She did start out saying no diet works, so you can toss all the diet books you have. ***SPOILER ALERT: But after all that, she does conclude that there IS one diet that does work. I will let you see for yourself. It seems like an infomercial that sets you up by dismissing the competition, and then explaining that their product is completely different. It seemed a little cheesy. I was sorry to see her come up with that.

Great Book!
This book was a great start down a long road to recovery from being a compulsive eater! I'd never read any of Geneen's books before, but I will be getting others in the hopes the they are written like this one. It was a very easy read; one page I was laughing, and the next I was hit over the head with a realization and was having to take a few moments to let it sink in. I would (and have done so already) totally recommend this book to anyone who is on the journey of changing their relationship with food and the way they view themselves while doing so. Geneen is spreading all kinds of great messages with this book, and I intend to keep it in my collection - re-reading it frequently - for a very long time.

Absolutely loved this book
Absolutely loved this book. A real life changer. Geneen Roth's message is such common sense although I think it is hard to eat when you're hungry and stop whey you're full but I'm going to try. Her recommendation that we look at "real" women and not the media stereotypes is a great message. Being kind to yourself is also a good idea! Speaking from experience, diets definitely don't work long term. The news today advocates more funding being given to weight loss surgery on the NHS. I think Doctors should give their patients this book to read instead. Cheaper and makes much more sense.

Really enjoyed this book
I enjoyed this book 100%, I will read it again soon, and I will pass it on to my daughter to whom I've passed on my hatred of my body....shame on me. I will worship what God has given me from now on...no more diets for me ....THEY DO NOT WORK !!!!!! If they did we would not be started a NEW one every 6 months !!!
