GORILLA Duct Tape, Heavy Duty and Weather Resistant, Black, 1.88" x 35 yd

What ever you put this tape on be sure you want it to stay there. The bond is so strong dont expect to repair something that with tape that has a super bond and then want it to come of easily. Its made to stay where you put it. If you put it on paint common sence tells you if you take it off its going to take the paint off, why wouldnt it? Every repair I have made with this tape has gone beyond expectations. I moved into a house that had really cheap floor tile in the kitchen and was installed badly, I simply cant afford to replace the floor. I noticed that some of the tile was comeing loose. I used this tape on the seams. This is black tape did I expect it to look like a professional repaire job? No. I expected it to keep the tile just where it was, and thats on the floor. After 4 months of people walking on it, 2 large dogs running over it washing the floor (using some common sence when gong over the tape), not one single part of the tape has begun to lift off. The screws holding the front cover of my diswasher had broken off and the only repair available was to replace the door. Well there was another option. I used the gorilla tape along the seam of the door and that was over 6 months ago and its still there and my dishwasther works perfectly. I have used this tape on tile, enamaled stainles steel, aluminum, plastic, and wood. There has not been a single project I hae used this tape on where the tape came off. If you want to do a temporary repair on something until you go to the hardware store just use something else made to be temparary. Don't use Gorilla tape and then complain because there were some problems taking it off. No product works on 100% of everything. Why would you expect this tape to do so. This tape is made to stay, period. Out of all the tapes there are how many would work being used on something that is exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. When I need to make a repair the first thing I think about is how permanent do I want this repair. Would you use a sledge hammer to pound in a finishing nail for a base board. I've just used it to secure a bookcase. The kit was given to me and it is the worst design I have ever seen. I would move it slightly and the whole thing would flex and the connections would come undone. I secured all the connections with gorilla tape. There is no give at all and the connections do not come apart anymore and so when i move the bookcase it doesnt fall apart. What started out as a piece of crap bookcase, actuall it shelving. it now a totally usefull set of shelves. Update: 10/14/12 bookcase is still together, dishwasher door is still being held together by this tape, and my floor tiles are still on the floor thanks to this tape. No additional repairs on any of these items been necessary. Had to use a large cooler in my kitchen to keep something cool that I couldnt fit in my refridgerator. 3 10lb bags of ice were in it. Silly me, I didnt check the valve on the cooler to be sure it was closed. I was gone for about 5 hours and came home to a whole lot of water on the kitchen floor. The tape that was holding down the tiles and covered with water to this day are still secure. None of it peeled up and its still keeping the tiles secure to the floor.

This is my go to tape when you want something heavy duty that is durable and will not come off.👍

For fear of being placed on some kind of secret government watch list as a DUCT TAPE hoarder, I won’t admit how much Duct Tape I’ve purchased over the past few years. I will say that I use DUCT TAPE more times a day than I eat. I am constantly using duct tape as extra hands to temporarily hold my project pieces in place for the initial gluing, nailing, stapling, screwing ... or more duct taping. The easy-to-tear and cheaper 5-mil tape is a blessing for this purpose. Reviews on duct tape are all over the place. So is duct tape. I was specifically interested in the adhesiveness and tensile strength of the 3 leading brands of black duct tape. I needed hard evidence, something tangible I could STICK with. The first thing I did was look at the thickness and cost based on prices effective 3/3/15. Scotch TOUGH Heavy Duty All Weather. 26.31 cents per yard and the mil thickness is not listed and might be explained later in my review. Intertape Polymer Group IG2PK-A Grip Black Heavy Duty. 25.36 cents per yard and 17-mil thick. Gorilla Tape. 25.66 cents per yard and 17-mil thick. The rubber adhesiveness when tested on a variety of surfaces did not reveal a discernible difference between the 3 brands. It grabs and sticks. As one comment said, “It’s ALIVE!” The Scotch tape is crinkled or wavy on the roll and if cut cleanly, the edge is hard to locate. I had to use a shop magnifying light. For years, at the end of the fireplace season, I have placed a heavy tarp over the top of a brick chimney and secured it with black duct tape. Every brand I’ve tried except Gorilla Tape has shredded and loosened before the following season. I’ve had Gorilla Tape holding a heavy tarp on a brick chimney for 2 years and it is still holding firm and not raveling. The tensile strength test really surprised me. I took several samples of each brand and folded the tape, adhesive side in, creating double-thickness strips 1/2-inch wide. I placed one end in a bench vice with padded jaws so the metal would not break the tape. I placed the other end in the cushioned jaws of a Vice-Grip. (A piece of bicycle inner tube works great for this purpose.) A new Rapala digital fishing scale hooked to the Vice-Grip would reveal at what weight the strip of tape would break. I ran 5 tests on each brand of tape and the results were consistent and conclusive. The Scotch TOUGH Heavy Duty Tape broke at a mere 5 pounds. I thought I was doing something wrong. It is WEAK tape. The Intertape Polymer Tape broke at 14 pounds. Not bad. I can live with that. The Gorilla Tape broke at a whopping 28 pounds. WHOA! Try this test yourself if you have any doubts. If you don’t have a fishing scale, you can tie a bucket (known weight) to a rail with a strand of black duct tape and place items of known weight into the bucket until the tape breaks. An 800-pound Gorilla can sit anywhere he wants to in my house.

I absolutely love this product! It sticks well, it removes easily if you need, you can slice a tiny bit and easily tear it (which I love doing), it's thick, it's black, affordable and will last a long time for me. I can't imagine living without duct tape. I don't go to hardware stores cos I find them rude, expensive, and often inferior products. Gorilla also has a deserved reputation for great products. Very happy with this. I also store it in a plastic bag that zips closed. I think it's wise to keep tapes away from air and dust. It's a big roll, so I didn't want to store in a drawer without protecting it. Ok, so I'm an artist, photographer, fix and make things. I needed to tape a small towel on top of a desk covering. I use a large mouse pad the size of most of my table. It's under my mouse and keyboard. My elbow was getting irritated by the constant movement of my arm. So the towel would provide a softer surface for my elbow. I needed something to hold my towel in place. Hello Gorilla duct tape. Last night I decide to move the towel. The tape came off when I tugged and tugged on it, on the pad and towel. But til then, the towel and tape were very secure. That's not easy, to keep those kinds of material taped. I love reading all the reviews because people use duct tape for so many uses. Good stuff.

I use Gorilla tape a lot, but I don't think of it as "duct tape". IMHO, that's a different product (which I also occasionally use, for different purposes). Gorilla tape is a lot thicker, stronger, and stickier than duct tape. Great, but sometimes you want something thin that will "blend in" better with its surroundings -- i.e. regular duct tape. Also, another reason not to call it "duct tape": I read an article in a magazine years ago, about laboratory tests on (regular) duct tape. I think it was in Consumer Reports but I'm not sure. They tested duct tape for all kinds of uses, and it was fine for many purposes, but the one thing they warned you NOT to use it for was ducts! It can't stand up to the temperature swings or vibration. Yet another reason not to call it "duct tape": So why is it called "duct tape"? I did a little more research, and found that "duct tape" was just a language error. This other article said that it was originally created for the US Marine Corps to temporarily seal ammunition boxes, as they were dragged ashore through the water during amphibious landings on islands in World War 2. And they called it "duck tape" as a kind of joke because it was (temporarily) waterproof. (Temporary was all they needed.) And I thought "Duck Tape" was just a specific brand of the stuff! Turns out that's what it was really called! So feel free to seal your ammo boxes with it, but it's bad for medical or hygiene use -- i.e., keep it off your ducts. Not sure about the Gorilla stuff though. Might be good to hold King Kong temporarily to the Empire State Building while you set up your camera angles.

The tape is great, really strong

We chose Gorilla tape because it has the 2x thickness adhesive layer! And let me tell you! this stuff sticks great! We use it to reinforce our RC car bodies. There are a lot of methods for doing this online including shoegoo and drywall tape or drywall tape and spray on bedliner. But this has been better and easier for us. When you get done, the shell feels 3 or 4 times thicker than without it. And thats with one layer. We overlap like a half inch or less (sometimes more) to keep it all connected. It just feels so much better! It provides so much piece of mind it's crazy! My wife loves the way the shells feel after we put this duct tape on it compared the other methods. 1x roll allowed us to reinforce 1x Rustler 2wd Vxl shell, 1x Maxx V1 Shell and 2x Xmaxx Shells! That would be like 8 regular 1/10 shells for only $12 bucks. You can't beat it! It can be tricky to put tape in some of the spots, so we use an exato knife and then put more tape in those spots. In the future, I'm thinking about buying Gorrilla hot glue, filling the tite grooves and hard to get to spots and then putting the tape down! Rc shells are not cheap for bigger vehicles like the Xmaxx ($120), Even when we get used Rc cars, I reinforce the shells. So even if the shell is already damaged I still do it to get more life out it. And for the price it just makes since. One thing that I found odd when looking at different tapes, was a rating for being easy to take off. I don't want it to be easy to take off, being difficult to come off is the whole point! From my experience applying this to lexan is that once it gets a good adhesion it sticks very well. It's not impossible to come off but does require a little bit of elbow grease. I haven't had any issues using this method as of yet, however I haven't been using it for a very long time either so it's only fair to say that this is experimental. But so far so good!
