Book Three in the bestselling fantasy series The Foundling, perfect for fans of Shannon Mayer, Jenn Stark and the Sookie Stackhouse novels War burned her. Famine nearly killed her. Now Death is at her heels. The Foundling, Book 3 After her two worlds clashed apocalyptically, Luce Boudreau needed some time out. But Destiny had other ideas. When bodies begin washing ashore down the Mississippi River, Luce discovers they are part of a gruesome, lethal message. Her final sister, Death, is trying to break through. Every sign is clear: the end is coming, but earth will be destroyed - quite literally - over Luce's dead body, even if that means she'll be battling her own nature. And her coterie will stand with her, though Cole keeps standing one step too goddamn far away. Her mysterious new partner, Adam Wu, on the other hand, seems determined to keep her close at all times. And the more Luce learns about the new world she's part of, the deeper the secrets go. Who - if anyone - can she really trust? As the final pieces of an ancient war come together, Luce's chance to fight back comes sooner than she expected. Death can come at her . . . she's eager to return the favour. Review: Love This Series! - Iโm really enjoying this series, and in this third book, Luce Boudreau has left the police force and is working with her new partner, Adam Wu and her coterie to investigate the gruesome bodies washing ashore, which they suspect are a message sent from her sister Death. As Luce learns more of the new world sheโs now part of, the more confused she becomes as to what her part is, who she can trust, and who are all of the players. I love Luce and her coterie, especially Cole, her love interest - and sheโs very interested but must step lightly with him. Thom, Santiago, Miller, Portia/Maggie and Adam Wu are all fantastic characters as well. There are some interesting revelations in this book, danger everywhere they go, and plenty of action as they work to eliminate some of Warโs coterie (the giant alligators) using intel from Warโs captured daughter Sariah, which puts some of Luce's coterie in serious danger. I canโt wait to read the next book to find out what happens to all of these great characters. Review: SpongeBob for the win - Good story, but the last quarter of the book was sort of confusing. I have to admit that I'm really invested in Luce and her found family! I keep hoping that her previous partner from the police force gets let in on the secret. On to the next book!

My fav series by this author so far
I love Hailey Edward books and this one was awesome. Luce was found floating in the swamps as a child with no identity and strange markings. She has since discovered she is Conquest, one of four sisters who invade planets to take them over. Except something went wrong when she entered Earth and she lived a human life until her sisterโs started showing up. Now she is trying to learn how to handle having a split personality that could erupt at any moment to kill those she loves and an invasion of her sisterโs followers. But the real battle is yet to come because someone has been behind the scenes pulling strings all along. I love how strong Luce is and how each character is so unique. The world the author has built is unlike any other book Iโve read. This is a must read series.

This series is a great mix of fantasy and mystery.
This series is a great mix of fantasy and mystery. It is very easy to become attatched to these unusual characters, many of whom are demons wearing human bodies most of the time. Each book has a short term dilemma to unravel, but the series has you yearning for information yet to come from the first book. Luce Boudreaux, or the demon War, is Earth's hope against her sisters bent on invasion and take over. But the agency she is working for is keeping secrets. Will Luce survive the upcoming battles?

Death Knell
This authorโs mind churns out fantastical worlds, characters and plots that are exhilarating, emotional and riveting. This Foundling series is superb! Luce and the gang will keep you turning the page, as you ask your self where is this going? Now that some serious secrets have been revealed and Luce is still recovering from all that has come her way, now the real deal has been revealed or has it? Amazing writing. Off to read book 4.

Flawed but still interesting
Way more world-building in this book, which was really interesting. Luce has to had to break away from her human roots/disguise and starts learning about the monsters hiding around the world. She also learns more about Conquest, the monster hiding within herself. Act 3 takes a turn I didn't see coming, and Luce has a revelation about Conquest that explains a lot about her past. Parts of this book were so great! Flaws include: SO many paragraphs of exposition; starting into a new version of police procedural (Men In Black edition) and then totally abandoning it; this ongoing romance/attraction between Luce & Cole is still unbelievable and lacks chemistry; parenting moments that were purely unbelievable; and more weird dynamics with Adam & Luce. This series lacks the fantastic pacing of the necromancy & black dog universe. I alpreciate that it's a very different world/setting, but I wish this series was structured differently. Luce goes from zero to OP, tight family to lightly grieving orphan, partnered policewoman to mega hero/villain gang, romance-less to 2 suitors, daughter to dodging dad entirely. So many big changes, and no time for the character or reader to adjust to any of them.

Oh my God, this series is COMPELLING!!!! I can't stop reading the books!!
This series is amazingly different from everything else I've read in the paranormal romance category! I'm captivated by the strong characters that communicate with sarcasm and emotions. I love Luce for her strength of character and her quick whit. Emotions challenge each relationship . each book has added more layers to the storyline, and I love it. Looking forward to reading what comes next.

Good book, but NO ENDING!
3.5/5.0 Good points to consider: 1. The story is engaging and keeps the reader wanting more. 2. Luce, Cole and the rest of her coterie are fabulous characters written with depth - allowing readers to really love each one, for good or ill. 3. The interaction, loyalty, love and commraderie between those main characters is the basis that brings one back to each new book. 4. The whole โfound in the swamp as a girlโ thing is incredibly interesting, along with Luceโs human nature because of it gives the entire series its heart. (See #2 below for the โbutโ coming.) Bad points to consider: 1. NO ENDING!! Not even a cliffhanger - it is a full-stop. Right in the middle of the storyline. No threads tied up. No conclusion to any part. Just... quit. I HATE THAT! 2. While the โfound in the swampโ was a creative and immensely promising start to the series, the play-out with Luce being one of the four harbingers of the apocolypse with all the evil, kinda weird world buidling after was dissappointing. Part of her being this horrifically sadistic creature isnโt enjoyable for me to read. 3. The afore-mentioned world is so complex it seems convoluted at times. I guess I like mine a bit more linear and not so all over the place. SO many players, itโs tiring. Everything considred, however, my biggest problem is with the non-ending. To me those are extremely disrespectful to every reader who invests the time and money to read a book. Leaving the overall arc dangling in a series is fine as long as the arc in each individual story is closed. Completely opened-ended should never be considered unless it is written and stated as a serial.

Another winner from Hailey Edwards
Death Knell is the third instalment of The Foundling series. Hailey Edwards has a way with words. Her words weave magic. The story is so unlike anything Iโve ever read before and it is simply brilliant. Luce is still discovering herself and embracing the relationships with her coterie. The revelations in this book took my breath away at times - then more twists and turns unfold. Read this series of books - you will not regret it. I received a copy of this from Netgalley in advance of the release but still bought the book as I wanted it for my collection.

An enjoyable read
A great read full of ups and downs and twists. The characters seem almost to be real living forces here with us.

I didn't really know what I was getting into!
On Amazon this shows as a 3 book series but then I find out that it is 5 and buying them all is expensive. Lots of revelations in this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book. It is a fantastic example of superb world building. However, I always find the beginnings slow reaching to an almighty crescendo at the end.

Wanted to like it
No romance to speak of, very draggy, hard to finish. Just not very focused. It had it's moments though. Might try to finish the series.
