I don't know why. I'm going to guess something to do with fires and power outages?) Installation...I had a handyman install it for me so I can't claim that it was easy or not. He told me that the physical installation was a breeze. Said it took him only like 2-3 hours total for that part. This contributed to my surprise when I came back home 5 hours later to see him still working on it. The problem with the installation is the programming. There are 3 or 4 buttons on the button of the unit. If you press them down enough you get a very satisfying click that feels like you're engaging it. That's wrong. If you push them down with like 35% of the force needed to get that click, you'll get a much less satisfying mini baby click. That's the spot you need to find. It took us both another couple hours to figure that out. Additionally, my handyman did not really read the instructions but more just installed from experience and looking at the diagrams. So the wall button wasn't working because of the diagram he saw that was confusing. The diagram shows the 4 holes where the wires go into on the side of the opener with 2 cables going into each 1 and 2. So he took the safety sensor cables and joined them with wall opener cables and put them in there. After a few days of looking at it and re-reading the instructions some 20 times I finally saw the blip of text that said he wall opener goes into 3 and 4. Moral.of the story: 1 and 2 are for each of the safety sensors (doesn't matter which). 3 (white) and 4 (red) are for the wall opener. Since that was corrected, this has been the opener of my dreams. I didn't know openers were this quiet and smooth. Haven't tried the desertcart Key deal yet, but once we do, maybe I'll update this review. One gripe I have: for the price, the lightbulbs should have been included. I ended up getting some from Costco that are pretty bright and cheap, and I probably would have replaced them with those anyeay, but still. Review: So quiet! - As a 53 year old single woman I was dreading the replacement of my current garage door opener. Needless to say with the purchase price of a new opener, I didn’t have the extra funds to pay someone to do it for me. I will say that the step by step instructions were clear, bags of fasteners were clearly labeled and indicated for use within the installation poster included in box. I also had the advantage of pre-existing wiring, for which I was entirely grateful. From opening the box to final programming for use took me about 5 hours. I feel this could have been quicker with two people and a better variety of tools on my end. I had no problems setting up the opener, remotes, or exterior keypad which I had seen complaints of in a couple other reviews, instructions were clear and easy to follow. I did run into a hiccup with my existing supports and this new openers power cord not being long enough. I rigged it for use for the couple of days needed to get the proper items shipped to me, finishing and finalizing took about another hour to complete. I never did download the app, I am quite content to just use my remote and keypad. About 3 months ago I left for work and no issues with my remote when I left. When I got home, the remote wouldn’t open the garage door, I got out, used the key panel and pulled in. For some reason I had to link my remote back to the opener and it’s been fine since. Yesterday my mother had the same thing happen to her, again, it was resolved by reprogramming the remote. Thank goodness this process is simple, but I don’t understand what’s causing this. Ours came from Costco on sale for $179.99, $194.84 with tax in Texas. Home Depot installed for $77. Took installers all of 30min, with me asking questions. Worth every penny, you won't be sorry. The instructions were clearly written as I was able to install it by myself. It is extremely quiet; it’s so quiet that I had to purchase a garage door sensor that ties in with my security system that lets me know when the garage door is opened. I, also, love the feature that I can use Siri to open/close the door. However, the crowning jewel occurred last week when we had a severe storm. The power went out and my wife and I had to leave and go to the hotel. Even though the power was out, we were still able to use the garage door since it does have a backup battery. In 3 years, I have had 0 issues with this product.
