Great performance at a nice price point
This is great vacuum for use in remodeling. (I guess the correct term is 'dust extractor") Great for use with sanders. It is powerful , at the same time it is light weight, easy to maneuver, has a very long and light weight hose. Very strong air flow, which works extremely well with keeping dust to near zero when used with a quality sander, such as Festool. I have a Festool 'dust extractor' as well. However, the Fein is at least as good, if not better, and cost about half. Yes it cost a lot more than a basic wet-dry vac. If a basic wet dry is what you are after, then this may not be for you. If however, you are looking for something to use with attaching to sanders, or your tracksaw, this will give you superior performance over a basic wet-dry. If you are on the fence on this one, go for it. You will not be disappointed.

Good machine. Quieter than other shop vacs, but still far from quiet.
Works great. I will say that while it is the quietest shop vac I have ever used, it is still a far cry from "quiet." It is definitely louder than a normal conversation or a restaurant setting like the db chart said. (Maybe not if you are at a bar restaurant with music blaring!) Anyway, I use it with my Rotary Engraving machine and it works well. I do have to keep a fan blowing into it to keep the recirculating air cool enough that I don't burn it out after many hours of constant use. I shot it with my thermometer last week and it was 150 degrees where the air was coming out after about 1.5 hours, with my extra fan blowing on it. So, it does get hot and it does quickly heat up the small room I have it set up in. I also still have to wear ear plugs because it is loud and it has a very high pitched, loud and constant noise in it, where the smaller hose attached to my engraving machine feeds into the step adapter connected to the regular hose. (My pets hate it, too!) I think it is the sound of the air moving around the smaller hose, or possibly whipping the smaller hose around in the adapter. All in all- it's been a great solution for my engraving machine dust collection without having to spend upwards of $1,000 on an industrial collection/vacuum system for it.

Powerful but quiet shop vac
I purchased the Fein Turbo 1 after researching quiet shop vacs and shop dust collection systems online. It was one of the few that actually gave a decibel rating. My old shop vac ran at 97 decibels, which required ear protection. The Fein is rated at 67 decibels. My phone-based app reads it at 74 decibels, but that's still much better than 97! I don't even feel the need to wear ear protection with it. I find this smaller Fein shop vac to be every bit as powerful as my old, much larger shop vac. The supplied 1 1/4" vacuum hose chokes it down and makes it a bit quieter, but, to my surprise, I could attach a 2 1/4" hose end to it without an adapter. The inlet is designed to accept the Fein twist-lock fitting, but the larger hose fittings will friction fit just fine. I'm surprised Fein doesn't advertise that fact. Maybe it's because they have a pricey set of accessories they want to sell. If you are hoping to use this unit for liquid pick-up, it will only be efficient for very small spills. When the liquid reaches the shut-off contacts, you will have less than 2 gallons in the tank - far less than the 3.4 gallons advertised. The Turbo 1 uses a fleece bag to catch the vast majority of dust, etc., but it also has an automotive-type pleated paper filter above the bag. The bags are a little pricey but they are much cheaper than paper filters. I use my Turbo 1 with an Oneida Dust Deputy cyclone unit in my basement wood shop. The Dust Deputy catches 99% of the sawdust and the fleece bag catches the rest. Very little dust ever makes it to the paper filter. The Turbo 1 is compact and has an integrated bin on top to hold small accessories or tools. It has worked out great for my application. Update! I have used this Fein shop vac for over a year now, and it has held up very well. Using it in conjunction with my Oneida Dust Deputy, I have collected several 5-gallon buckets of sawdust in that time. The fleece bag eventually collects enough very fine dust that performance is affected, especially if you use it with a palm sander. The bag will last a very long time if you're only collecting larger sawdust from saws. The paper filter is still the original, and still looks pristine. I love the accessory electrical outlet feature. I can plug in any tool requiring 6 amps or less. When I start the tool, the vac comes on automatically. It stops 15 seconds after I turn the tool off.

Cannot be beat for the price! (Edit after 2+ years)
I ordered this vac after doing some research on dust extractors and checking out specs on the competition including Festool, Dustless, etc. I settled on the Fein for a couple of reasons. First was the noise level. This thing is VERY quiet in comparison to most other stuff out there! You can have a conversation easily while it is running. They rate it at 66 decibels. Next is the option for permanent filters. It doesn't come with one, but for around $70 you can buy a permanent, washable pre-filter and never have to use the disposable pre-filter bags again. That is very attractive in terms of long term filter costs as well as ease of use. Lastly was the price. The festool is just as nice, I'm sure, but nearly-twice-the-price nice? For the price I am completely happy. I admit I was skeptical of spending so much on a glorified shop-vac, but I use it for work, so I decided to bite the bullet. The suction power is so much greater than a standard shop-vac. It picks up things that I've vacuumed over before that haven't been taken up due to lower suction power! The auto-start is also a great feature. So all of this in a dust extractor for $300 or so? Awesome. The hose is a great length. The cord is a great length. It rolls effortlessly unless you lock the front caster to stop it from rolling- that's a good thing. Great suction power. QUIET. Permanent pre-filter option. Storage space on top. The list goes on. Great dust extractor value. EDIT 3/3/2017: So I still love the vacuum, BUT as I saw stated in another review, my autostart feature also stopped working. Granted, this is 2+ years later, but I find it annoying. Now when I turn on auto-start, the vacuum starts and doesn't stop whether the attached tool is on or off. It is now acting as a second on switch basically. It IS nice that the vacuum can still power an external tool, but it sucks that this once-great feature is now useless. I contacted the warranty and repair department and now realize that since I didn't register my product within 6 weeks of purchase (nowhere did the paperwork suggest doing this), my warranty was only 1 year and not three. The repair department said that the "electronics" went bad and I needed to send it in. The closest repair center is a couple of hours away. He also quoted me around $100 to repair this. That's not worth it to me, so now the vacuum will stay just slightly less helpful than when new. It's a shame.

Great vacume
So far its awsome , bought this instead of the festool mini for a $130 savings and it works with the festool perfectly out of the box no additional parts needed. Verry powerful! Added a mesh cover and ready to go.

Amazing
This thing is ridiculous. Way more suction than my big rigid vac. I run it through a dust separator on a bucket and this one collapsed the bucket almost instantly. I got a metal bucket and it still tries to collapse it. Well worth the price.

This machine is terrific!
Compact. Quiet. Sucks like an anteater on steroids. Bags could be less expensive, but each fill up takes quite awhile. Be careful what you sweep around. If you don't want a part ending up in the trash, pick it up before you sweep or this thing will pick it up. It's expensive, albeit, well worth the price. I do wish they would package the accessories with the machine and you just swallow a little harder when you buy the whole thing.

Stellar operation! Used for drywall sanding dust removal.
This thing is WAY better than my old shop vac. Maybe 1/10th of the dust I used to see hit the floor. It runs quiet and the bag keeps dust tight inside. The addition of the outlet on the front for tools is also a nice touch. I highly recommend this!

Amazing quality/price
Surpassed my expectations. I debated other high end models but the Fein performs beautifully. It's suction is strong, quiet motor & operates amazing with saws plugged/hooked into it!!
