clear diagrams, lots of fun
At first, I was put off by the fact that there's no color in the book. But as I continued following the book and making the modulars, I found the diagrams are so clearly illustrated that not having color illustration was not an impediment. One of the most enjoyable and therapeutic sets of origami models to make for beginner to intermediate folders.

Very complex book- not for novice or one with out patience , time or a lot of excess paper!
Liked concept directions ok-but was pricey given that diagrams were not color photos as assumed based on cover- “examples” made it way to difficult for our “skill” level- or lack there of-etc- we weren’t allowed to return even within <5 days but were instead allowed to keep it and offered refund. (Would have rather returned it— THUS we will pay it forward and donate it to our school library they will LOVE to add it to their origami book collection!

Frustratingly Sparse
As a beginner's book, it would have been much better to show step by step instructions to completing the solids once the modules are completed. Instead, you get summary drawings and vague directions. It also would have been helpful to know which side should have the color/design of the paper when starting as my origami paper just has patterns on one side. Some of the polyhedra are fairly easy to put together and result in beautiful works. It's just that these types of structures are few and far between in the book.

A good introduction, but it requires concentration and patience!
This book is not for everyone, but for those who have the patience and concentration, it is a good introduction to folding these polyhedra shapes. We were able to accomplish folding some of these, while others I know will be somewhat of a chore. The key is to take your time, check and recheck each direction, and be prepared to refold a piece if it does not come out perfectly. These are a lot of fun if you are willing to put in the time and patience!

Great gift
My 11 year old brother loved this as a gift and enjoys all origami crafts. Would highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in paper crafts.

Wow!
This book is great, simply great. I'm a newbie to Origami, I've started with a beginner's book and after I had finished it I bought this one and thought a modular origami would be nice. Well, its awsome! Most of the projects are perfectly clear, and the results are stable and good looking. My desk is now covered with my modules. There are few projects that are'nt clear enough (beware of the equilateral triangle from hexagon - I've spent hours and a lot of paper on it and still have'nt got a clue of how it should be assembled....), but most of them are great. I've enjoyed working on them for hours, and wanted more.Great purchace!Shay

This is an interesting book but some of the directions are a little hard to follow. Once you get the hang of it though, it goes pretty well, which is good because each design takes several of the same shape and they all fit together. It's pretty fun, a little frustrating, and also rewarding once you figure it out.

Very Satisfying
Built all of these. Some require non-square paper in quanitity, but give a real sense of accomplishment (for example, on completeing a dodecaheron). Diagrams and instructions are easy to follow.

Clear & easy to follow diagrams
As an almost total beginner of origami (cranes, basic animals etc) I picked up this book to take the next steps of origami and move into more 3D models. This book covers a little about the history of platonic solids, explains basic bases, demonstrates how to shape paper into triangles and hexagons, and provides patterns for:Cubes (4 types)Tetrahedra (3 types)Octahedra (4 types)Dodecahedra (3 types)Icosahedra (2 types). All of the diagrams are in black and white but I've found them clear and easy to understand. I'm delighted that I've been able to make what look like very impressive models on the first attempt.Overall I'd highly recommend this book to all beginners. Make sure you stock up on paper though as some models require lots of pieces - the dimpled dodecahedra used 90 sheets!

not for beginners
very disappointed as this got mostly good reviews. The instructions are unclear and the basics are not explained well enough for beginners. Many of the models are unnecessarily complex and in some cases over-folded resulting in ugly creases in the finished model. Also many of the folds do not begin with square paper and in some cases more than one model is described simultaneously, leading to confusion. In addition the quality of the book itself is poor with cheap paper, poor quality print and no colour photographs.

Highly recommended
You'd never believe it, but these are so simple to make, they just take time. It is the perfect book for beginners in modular origami and encourages one to ask for more. The instructions are clear, simple and large. Initially I would recommend using slightly larger paper because once you get to the smaller paper you need quite a bit of dexterity and a lot of patience to fit everything together. Some modules require triangular paper which they tell you how to make from square paper, but although this takes time, they are really impressive.
