No wear at all. I wash the one I used in mild soapy water and let it dry. Later, it goes into a 2-gallon ziplock bag before going into the freezer. The reason? If you're using a household freezer, remember that these packs were on your body ;) Also, the cover is soft and will absorb food odors. Washing and drying don't take long but I alternate the bags so I have a nicely frozen one when I need it just in case I didn't refreeze the one that was drying quickly enough. Oh! And make sure you lay them flat in the freezer in their bag. This way there aren't any lumps and it's moldable to the way you want ot use it. I have not used it yet as an ice pack.
