Almost perfect, don’t know how to improve
I do love my trash can… I’ve had it for ~6 months and I wouldn’t trade it because the fit, form, & function are great. The one place where it loses a star is the fact that the sensitivity for motion could be a little better but it works from approximately 6 inches away from the sensor so it’s still not something I have to touch and a bin my dog cannot get into! I thought about taking off a star for this, but that’s really not fair because the only time I’m touching it is when I want it to stay open for an extended period of time like emptying the bin from my stick vacuum. It holds a little bit bigger of a bag so I’m not changing it all the time and really easy to switch bags out by the way. For what it’s worth, it’s not a true 13gal so I would recommend getting the HippoSak 13gal bag because they’re slightly oversized and taller with no breakage at the bottom and easy handles that fold up super snug underneath the guide. I’m a huge fan of the fact that it’s got such a clean look that you can’t see the bag hanging out of it and I don’t take a bunch of time to try to do that the ingenuity of how it holds the bag in place is super slick! Overall, I would absolutely buy it again and I still don’t have a single dent or scratch in it… it’s quiet, leaves zero smell in my kitchen/living area - this one was really important to me because it sits right between my fridge in my couch and I really open loft type living space so I thought the value was completely worth it! I haven’t tried it with the batteries, but they offer a long enough cord that I don’t even have to worry about it except for having a nice back up whenever you either can’t reach a plug or the power goes out.

Buy this if your looking
I rarely leave reviews, but this one is well deserved. I had a small issue with shipping, and the company immediately sent a replacement—no hassle at all. Their customer service was some of the nicest and most responsive I’ve ever dealt with. The automatic trashcan itself is amazing—works perfectly and looks great. I was so impressed, I ended up buying four of the smaller 2.5-gallon versions too. Highly recommend this product and this company!

Measurements of 13 gal can
For those who, like me, may be confused about the different measurements given for the 13 gal. model with butterfly lid, I thought I'd share what the actual measurements turned out to be. The specifications on the amazon listing say it measures 19.29 x 14.93 x 23.23 inches. The picture with measurements in the listing add up to 22.98 x 15.9 x 10.9 inches. When it arrives, the box says L19.09 x W13.58 x H19.88 inches (see picture). I'm attaching pictures I took of the dimensions with a measuring tape (length and width taken from the inside of the upper lid to avoid measuring error from the curved lid wings). I will add that those curved wings would add a small additional amount to the overall height of the can as they curve outward/upward--I only measured to the edge top. Hope this helps someone. It was also unclear to me from the ad whether the lid retracted into the waste bag--it only retracts to the top of the bag on each side, essentially the distance of the portion of the canister top that removes. Just received today and I like it thus far. I got the dark stainless and it is quite nice looking. I will say that I had hopes that the opening wings would be metal. They are not. If you look closely in the pictures, there is a small line where the metal ends and a top plastic piece that includes the opening/closing wings begins. It does match nicely, though.

A Waste of Money!
The garbage pale is fine. The issue I ran into is the lid. One day the lid just stopped closing all the way. It would make it's way 2/3 of the way and then stop. A few days later it would close all the way on one side but stay open on the other side. It would fluctuate on it's own from time to time. The smell of the garbage would seep out making the kitchen area smell bad. When you have small kids, the only thing they know is to trash and go not worried about the lid being left open. For all the money that I paid for this trash can, you would think that it's suppose to work. Not the case. I reached out to to the company and unfortunatey my warranty had already expired. Long story short, Don't buy automatic openers. Eventually like most electornics components that require a motor, it will fail at some point. Instead, purchase a garbage can that has the foot press. It would last longer. The manufaturer was not able to resolve my issue due to its warranty expiration. I think that in cases like this, the manufature should honor their product and do what is neccessary for consumers by standing by their product. I will never purchase from this manufacturer again.

Expensive, but very happy with product
It was much pricier that I wanted to pay. But, it Looks great, good size configuration for 13 gallon, dual lid opening, easy set up.

First HOmeLabs disappointment.
Our first HOmeLabs product, a dehumidifier, ran 24/7 with nothing but routine maintenance (cleaning off filters for ten seconds every six months or so) for over SEVEN hard-working years. When it finally went to its reward, we immediately purchased another, and it seemed safe to trust the brand when it came time for a new trashcan. Unfortunately, this is not up to it’s brethren's legacy. The black plastic liner hold snapped from simply having trash pushed down. But much worse, the motorized lid is pathetic. The flaps open promptly, but not to the full vertical, so the opening is narrow and obstructing. And, thanks to the cheap stay mechanism, that narrow gap starts falling shut immediately, meaning you have to get the trash through the shrinking window of opportunity as fast as possible. The close also doesn’t create a decent seal, so the scent of your garbage is readily available regardless of when the lid is open. This is a cheap, off the shelf, generic garbage lid mass-manufactured for any company that wants to slap their labal on it. HOmeLabs can and should do much better.
