How to Draw Horses in Simple Steps

Purchased this How-To book for my niece who loves horses. I knew she would be pleased with this book as it is a beginner level How-To Draw book with step by step instructions. I ordered this item and had it shipped to her home all the way in California, amazingly enough it arrived at her doorstep the very next day! I also had a nice set of colored pencils delivered with this book and she was thrilled with her gift. Amazon shipping sure beats a trip to the post office and no way would it have arrived from Indiana by the next day. I would definitely purchase from this seller again and this book makes a very nice gift.

This is for my 9-year old granddaughter who truly loves horses and takes riding lessons! She is also an avid artist--I have not given this to her yet, as her birthday is in March! But I draw and paint, and this book is excellent in describing and illustrating every step to make a horse that is realistic--not cartoonish! Lovely horses and fine detailed illustrations!

Don't get me wrong, its not necessarily bad that there aren't any explanatory notes. I just think it would be a better book if there were a few salient tips now and then. But anyone can use this book, even without the words. Each horse drawing is broken down into six steps, starting from basic rounded circles for the body and head and then adding legs and tails, and onto more detail and shading until the horse is finally shown in full color. Some of the horses didn't look quite right to me in their proportions (legs too long or something), but at least the artist captures them in movement.

Purchased for my grand kids, but found it very informational myself. We spend time together all practicing the information in the booklet. Very happy about buying this booklet. They love horses, and are quite talented to begin with, so this helps them build upon their natural ability.

I've bought this book for my niece's birthday (she's a little artist and loves horses). My mother, who is a retired art teacher and is a lifelong horse lover, is very impressed with this book because it shows how to draw horses based on simple shapes and also shows different breeds and ages doing various activities. In short, this drawing book should be in my niece's library from now on!

The examples are quite nice and the instructions easy to follow. I was a little disappointed by the slim size of the book.

This book is fantastic. Eva Dutton is a superb artist, especially regarding Horses. I love horses, and the closest I can get to a real horse, i draw one. I love this book

This 32 page A4 sized guide cover 28 horse breeds in various poses including Przewalski, Chestnut, Bay Arab, Palamino and Shire. Each horse is illustrated in six stages the first being a series of circles/ovals/lines to get the perspective right. This basic first step is encouraging for a beginner who can then feel confident in a positive start. Steps 2-4 progress steadily, but for me there is quite jump from line drawing to shaded nearly finished horse at steps 5 and 6. The author and artist Evan Dutton is highly skilled and there is a nice range of poses including one horse on its back with its legs in the air.Why it does not get 5 stars is due to the lack of text. Apart from the introduction there are no notes from the author to explain how to develop the picture at each stage.

Well i certainly needed this i always found horses hard to draw and paint but this makes it much easier , after practice you can do your own ideas ,it just helps you on your way very good thank you .

very good book, have done one so far and it was fun, did it as a competition with the other half, my head was too small and his back end looked like a cow but both were far better than if we didn't have the book!
