4 1/2 Stars - Soul Singer Lost and Forgotten in the Past of Music
Garnet Mimms reminds me a bit of the Great Sam Cooke, similar vocal sound, but not quite on Sams' level - but who was! As I listen to this set I find myself liking quite a few of the tracks, especially One Girl - which sold me this album. I"d really only heard about 3 cuts by him up until now, he sails between soul with a blend of R&B in his voice. The recordings fall between '63 an '66, and the delivery is of that era. Comes with a nice 6 page booklet that gives a bit of background and talks about each song. I delved into a few other tracks. If they would have included: My Baby; Tell me Baby; That goes to show you; and Keep on Smiling, I'd give this 5 stars. As these are excellent songs and could have been included in lieu of a few of the tracks on here. If you are looking for "A Little Bit of Soul" you haven't heard, give him a listen, I think you'll like him. I did!

A great voice.
Garnet Mimms had a powerful voice and his hit "Cry Baby" is a national treasure. His other songs on these two original lp's are very well done and should be enjoyed by everyone.

the Cry Baby CD is very nice, and I enjoy the music from the olden ...
Sadly, the second CD did not not arrive and either I was supposed to get the Warm and Soulful in addition, or I misunderstood that only one of the two was the offer. At any rate, the Cry Baby CD is very nice, and I enjoy the music from the olden days.

2 for 1
This one CD contains all the hits from GM that I want to listen to. Not able to listen consecutively to all 26 songs. Find myself skipping to just my favorites. A good buy.

2 Early Albums By A Truly Underrated Artist
Garnet Mimms was one of the more underrated Soul singers of the sixties, although he had hits in the States. He had an unusual sound. The Ace label have issued a CD collecting all but one track of his US United Artist singles, plus a track not on any of his singles. He also had three albums out in the States on that label, unsurprisingly none of which were issued here. But mysteriously, United Artist in the UK issued a 14 track album Warm And Soulful collecting tracks from his second and third US albums. That has been reissued here with his first US album Cry Baby which is the first album on this CD. Many of the tracks on his albums were also on singles, and therefore many of those tracks appear here and on that Ace CD, but give better sound quality here, and with slightly wider stereo separation, noticeable through headphones.. Many of the remaining tracks on his second and third US albums that are not here were also released on singles, and therefore appear only on the Ace CD. But the remaining three tracks have not been reissued, but are playable on Youtube. They include Something On Your Mind, Angel On My Doorstep, & Please Send Me Someone To Love. One of the tracks here As Long As I Have You has now been covered by Roger Daltrey as his latest single, and as the title track for his new album. The musical quality is surprisingly high with future members of The Sweet Inspiration supplying surprisingly noticeable Soulful backing vocals on most of the early tracks.

Splendid Deep Soul From The Bert Berns / Jerry Ragovoy Stable...
Garnet Mimms was one of the great deep soul voices of the 1960s - but along with Arthur Alexander, James Carr (pick your own) and others, never achieved the kind of commercial success that his talent truly deserves. This two albums on one package doesn't have my favourite - 'Tell Me Baby' - on it, but it does boast twenty-six superbly soulful tracks, steeped in Gospel, and boasting some delectable production values and great songs by the Bert Berns and Jerry Ragovoy production team. Garnet turned to the church after a sole disco-flavoured hit in 1977 - the church's gain is our loss, and these sides represent a motherlode of timeless soul music.

Garnet Mimms is great!!
Anyone that likes early sixties soul will enjoy this collection. It is missing a few of his songs though. That's to be expected. This CD sounds fantastic. The backup singers are outstanding. As Long As I Have You is my favourite Garnet Mimms track.Cry Baby is obviously a standout. If you like this CD you will probably also enjoy Toussaint McCall's CD that is sold on amazon. It's also outstanding. This CD has Nobody But You whereas the Best Of Garnet Mimms CD has MY Baby. Both are worth owning so I bought both CD's. The Best of CD is 'brighter' but seems to lack the bass that this CD has so both are required if you really like Garnet.
