A lot to like for the price
I recently bought an "Uncle Henry" pocketknife (9UH) and have been so impressed with it, I thought I'd be similarly pleased with the 182UH Elk Hunter. The fit and finish on the 9UH is so good that my expectations were high, so I'm disappointed the fit around the brass bolsters, the handle material and the blade leaves a little to be desired. It's not bad, but it's not great. It still feels good in the hand and it looks pretty good. It has a true full tang with the highly polished brass bolsters and pommel and simulated stag grips attached as slabs. From the bolsters to the tip the blade it's 9.8 cm long and 3.2 cm wide and hollow ground 2.3 cm up from the edge. Overall it's 21.3 cm. The grip is 8.9 cm long. For someone with a wide hand it may not be too comfortable. The blade is 4 mm thick which for a short knife gives it a good weight. It feels very good in the hand. Despite the width of the blade at the spine the high deep hollow grind leaves it pretty thin for about 1 cm up from the edge. This means while the 7Cr17MoV High Carbon Stainless Steel blade is tough and durable it may be a little brittle for hacking and chopping. This knife looks good and comes with a nicely made leather sheath. I really like this knife and give it a full five stars. I just wish the worker who did the final fitting on the bolsters, pommel and grip had just been able spend another 10 minutes on this job before moving on to the next one.

Heavy, sharp and great quality! Perfect for the outdoorsman.
This knife is extremely sharp! I got this for my son after he fell in love with my Uncle Henry. I went and bought him this one as his first hunting knife! It is heavy and made of quality material! Uncle Henry is the way to go if you are an outdoorsman! I will continue to purchase these products for the rest of my life!

Good blade for the money
Not a great knife, but for the money a very GOOD knife. Sturdy, takes a good edge. I like the faux, burned bone handle look. Didn't think I would but do. Feels good in the hand as well. Probably better than real bone anyway because in the end real bone always seems to end up with cracks where the rivets go in. Take reasonable care of this inexpensive blade and you'll be handing it down to your grandkids. No complaints, would buy it again.

"100 percent made in the USA" - apparently NOT
"100% made in the USA"? APPARENTLY NOT, despite what the Amazon description says. The box the knife came in says "Made in China" in two different places. I guess the description was made in the USA, but not the knife! That said, the knife looks good, is quite sharp, and feels solid. The leather sheath seems to be very nice. We'll see how it all holds up by the end of hunting season. So if you want a good $28 Chinese knife, this is the one for you.

Very poor fit and finish
The ad said made in USA - THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT IT!!! Very poor fit and finish, more Chinese crap, it's NOT MADE IN THE USA. Gonna get my $$$ back.

Good for, you guessed it, elk hunting.
Bought this knife for its purpose: hunting elk. Schrade is a good brand with dependable knives, and if you care about actually using something, not who made it, read on. I need a knife that can keep an edge throughout the entire elk gutting process, maybe take a blow from a rock when I split the pelvis, and this knife can do that. It feels good in the hand and the leather sheath is a plus. The blade is the right length for gutting and skinning larger animals. The downside is its size and weight. This is a heavy knife with a fixed blade, and if you are trying to save pack weight and space throughout a long, high elevation hunt, this knife might bother you. However, I would say you get what you pay for, and this is a very durable, utilitarian, and even attractive knife for a very reasonable price.

Very nice, for a cheap knife.
This knife is very sturdy and well put together. It feels very nice in hand with just the right amount of weight, balance, and texture. I like that it came with a nice leather sheath. This was a definate plus since I decided to burn a dragon into mine. (See picture) For the price, this is a very nice knife.
