I gave this mat as a gift to my neighbors for Christmas. They use there Leaf Blower to clean it. I walked on it yesterday barefoot to answer another question and it look as good as the day I placed it on there entry walkway.

Q: Are these machine washable?

You can shake out these mats to remove larger pieces of dirt and debris. Vacuuming as needed will help remove finer particles of dust, sand, etc. You can also hose them down for a deeper cleaning (or even power wash them every once in a while for a heavy-duty cleaning). Q: what is the difference to consumer between polyester fiber and plypropylene in a mat?

I asked the same question when I was ordering mats and could find no info from the manufacturer. I ended up getting one of each since I needed 2 anyway. I do know a bit about plastics but nothing obvious pops up as to which type of mat is best for a typical application. Polyester (PET), in general, is more rigid than poly(propylene) (PP) and is used commercially for manufactured items such as plastic bottles. PP is generally a bit softer but is used for a variety of items including carpeting. Note, however, unless unless treated with specific additives PP has a tendency to degrade and become embrittled when exposed to sunlight for long times. Not having these two items for a long enough time to check wear and tear, etc. I don't know the difference in performance as mats with foot traffic, and likely, outdoor exposure. So far they are completely equivalent after 1 month's use.

Q: Does this mat accumulate dog hair? It's for my back porch and we have a dog.

I also have a dog. Hairs will land on the water hog (it isn't magic). There is a difference between my water hog and area rug in my living. On the water hog the hairs easily vacuum off (don't get imbedded) where on my area rug the hairs are much more difficult to remove. I never notice any hairs till I am vacuuming, and then they vacuum up!
