Great book for any fitness instructor to learn more about Pilates
I am a fitness instructor that teaches a variety of formats. I wanted to incorporate more mat Pilates exercises into my classes. This is the perfect book! It gives a great overview and background of Pilates methods, and then provides a detailed breakdown of numerous Pilates exercises - including cuing tips, modifications, and incorporation of props. I highly recommend it. The only downside, the photos in this book look a little outdated (does not affect the quality of content).

Very detailed
My pilates instructor let me borrow her manual (I think she was tired of me emailing her all the time with questions hahaha) and once I skimmed through it I knew I had to order my own. The language is a bit technical for someone with no real education in anatomy, but it pushes me to learn more about the body to better understand what I'm doing. The visual aids are great. I highly recommend this if you are working a pilates program at home. I have private sessions with my instructor, but I only do matwork so I can do them all at home with the basic pilates equipment (ring, mat, résistance bands). This is THE source for pilates.

Good Teaching and learning Manual
I'm taking a Pilates class as part of my Dance Education degree and we are using this book as well as another Pilates book at the same time. While the other book is very good in regards to showing the muscles used and the anatomy of the body this one is very good in giving different modifications and variations of just about every move. This is a good thing because there are some exercises that can be very difficult for a beginner it offers an easier alternative or in some cases what they consider a "Prep" exercise to start with before actually doing the full exercise. If you are new to teaching or a new student/self taught at home even, then this is a good book to use.

This is a very informative and comprehensive book about STOTT Pilates Matwork for level 1. The descriptions of the exercises are easy to understand. The pictures of the exercises are wonderful supplements to the descriptions. Each exercise is labeled as "essential" (beginner), intermediate or advanced so it's easy to custom-make your own workout routine with this books. I think anyone could take this book and get a great preliminary knowledge of STOTT Pilates. Obviously learning from a certified instructor is best, but this book really is a wonderful tool that should be purchased by anyone interested in Pilates matwork. I highly recommend it!
