Best thing since slice bread...one wish though...
As a father of two girls, I've always hated causing pain on my girls while brush their tangled hair in the morning. I've tried several different brushes before with mixing results so when I heard about this brunch from my older daughter, I had to give it a try (her friend brought one to summer camp). This is the best thing since slice bread. With few strokes, I can untangle my kids hair w/o any screams of pain. I'm sure there may be cases when this brush may fail but I've yet to encounter such tangle. And best of all, the girls (both less than 8 years old) can effectively brush their hair with this brush. My only complaint (hence 4 stars) is not related to the product effectiveness. For a piece of plastic which I can assume the production cost is in pennies and yet charging 9 dollars, I wish they look into making the product in USA instead of China. I would happily pay $10 for this product to be made in USA.

Brush makes hair "look good" and makes for a calmer hair brushing in the mornings
I have mixed feelings about this brush. This brush was recommended to my wife by the kids' hairdresser at the Snip-its salon. This is the hairbrush that they routinely use at the salon. My wife bought it because the straight brush we used on our 6 year old daughters hair always pulled on the tangles and she would scream. That said with enough persistence the tangles came out and her hair was good. This brush almost never causes her to scream. It does not hurt her hair and the hair looks well kept. Now the problem is the word "looks" I find that the soft bristles just don't catch on the tangles. It combs out the straight hair making it look good, but leave all the tangles in the hair. So it's not really good, but does make her hair look good. In a pinch it is great and quick to use, especially when I don't want my daughter to put up a fight and scream that I am pulling her hair. The other downs side is that the pink body of the brush keeps detaching from the black bristle part. I just keep putting it back in place, but it would be nice if the brush held together better. All in all useful to have, but disappointing in how truly effective it is.

DO NOT BUY!!!!!
this brush is seriously awful. sure it's easy to hold like the questions ask. does it detangle... yes. but that all does not matter when the bristles feel like knives scraping your scalp and back. i brushed my daughter's hair and didnt realize how bad they were and it left scratches all down her back. i truly do not like this brush and wouldnt recommend it to anyone!!!

mehh.... works about as good as a brush
My five year old daughter has really curly blonde hair that has to get combed every morning to intense complaining. Someone told us about the Knot Genie and we had to try it. It seemed to work pretty well but it was not a miracle. I think a lot of the success of this product comes from the fact that it has no handle and it is hard to hold onto so you can't force it through anyone's hair. The bristles are really short so you can't grab a lot of hair at one time. It forces you as the brusher to be more gentle because you can't hold it that well and it doesn't have very long bristles to grab a lot of hair. You can get the same results if you use a normal brush and just brush gently with very shallow strokes.

High expectations - MET! - Revision
UPDATED Review:When i received this brush in the mail, I tried using it like a regular brush, expecting it to pull through the tangles right away. I tried it a couple times, and then chucked it in a drawer when it didn't seem to product any results. About 6 months later, my husband saw me struggling to brush our little girl's wet, curly hair and asked why i wasn't using the knot genie? He pulled it out and showed me that if you continuously, yet softly, keep brushing down the hair, the knots eventually work themselves to the bottom and out. It makes an odd noise, as if the bristles are just brushing past the hair, but somehow miraculously it works. It DOES take a little longer than it would to brush with a regular brush, but since the crying fits are non-existent anymore the entire start-to-finish event is probably still the same amount of time. This brush should come with instructions - maybe it did and i tossed them out figuring i didn't need hairbrush instructions? it's been a while since i ordered it. Anyway, give this brush a try, and just be patient until you get the technique down. I feel so guilty that I gave a bad review without understanding the concept of the brush! And also, Kudos to husband for figuring it out.Orginial Review:I almost feel like the other reviews were written by people who sell the product. Unfortunately, this brush did little to nothing to ease post-bath brushings of my toddler's curly mop. She was excited about the color, size, and name of this brush when it arrived in the mail- especially after I assured her it would make the brushing experience much more tolerable. It doesn't pull through very well, and it just doesn't seem to be any better than any other inexpensive brush I've tried on her in the past - and I feel like I have tried them all. This will go in the drawer of unsuccessful purchases, along with the other 4 brushes, and I will continue my search! I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 because it is cute, therefore somewhat more appealing to a toddler than a regular brush.

great for detangling without too much pull
I went to a new hairdresser and she used one of these to brush out my hair. I have long, fine, wavy hair, which I curl most days and use a decent amount of hairspray, so it can get pretty tangled. Previously, when I would comb my hair out before a shower, I would end up with a terrifyingly large hairball and the fear I was going bald. I was amazed when my hairdresser was effortlessly able to brush out the knots. As soon as I got home from my haircut, I ordered this on Amazon and it's amazing! Using the Knot Genie, I end up pulling out a tiny fraction of the hair I did with a conventional comb. The shape is a little awkward (I'm not sure why it isn't shaped like a regular brush) so you can't use it for things like putting your hair in a ponytail, but it's ability to get the knots out is 100% worth it. I usually use the Knot Genie right before my shower to detangle and then use a regular brush for styling/blow drying once my hair is knot free.
