Q: Can these be recycled?

The manufacturer has stated in another customer response that the material is a PP and cornstarch blend, this is more commonly known as PLA. PLA is industrially compostable, although not in the UK since we do not use the correct industrial composting methods in our facilities, and it is NOT recyclable - in fact it is considered to be a contaminant to the recycling chain. There is no effective end of life for PLA based products in the UK other than landfill.

Q: Can I add these to my compost heap?

Our floss picks are made primarily from corn-starch but are not fully compostable. In time, we hope to be able to find a solution to ensure the firmness and quality of the floss pick handle with a fully compostable material.

Q: If this has plastic in it, how can you call it 'Plant Based'? The bench mark has already been set by plant based foods which dont contain 40% meat!

Hello, Thank you for your question. Our floss picks are primarily made out of cornstarch and the binding agent is PP, which is needed as cornstarch itself is too porous to bind to item self with current technology. We are always looking into improving our products and we know that it is not perfect, but a better alternative to the other floss picks out there. Thank you for your feedback. Q: Are these as good as the Oral B floss picks please ?

I’ve not tried Oral B picks, but they do cost more than Humble’s, not one of them have broken and they have double floss string.
