Works
I purchased two of these units, one for my Nikon D800 and the other for the D600.Both worked right out of the box--no issues at all. Just attached them to the camera and they start working. The good: Smaller than I expected. Small enough in fact, that I leave it on the camera full-time. Just works out the box, no changes to configurations, no setup, nothing--it just works. The bad: Documentation is zero. Nothing in the box at all. I have no idea if it uses the camera's battery or has its own battery that may need changing at some point--I'm going to do more research on that.Basically compared the the bulky, wired Nikon GP1 GPS for Nikon, this thing rocks! Why 4 not 5 Stars?Because I don't believe in giving someone an A+ just because I didn't see any imperfections; there was no documentation of any kind, so that warrants the -1 rating.

Pretty nice little gadget
Despite the flimsy materials of the housing, this unit works pretty good on both the D5100 and D600. The connection on the D600 is a little tight. Be very careful when plugging in and taking out. Don't bump up against anything or it will break off. Take it off before you put your camera in your bag. Takes up to 4-5 minutes to lock in and about 3-5 seconds to hook back in if your meter turns off. Set you meter time delay to 5 min. Slim-line profile that sticks out about one half inch from the camera body. You won't be able to use any of the other connections in the D5100 when this unit is plugged in. On the D600, you can use the mic connection if you hook the mic up first, then the GPS. If you are desperate for geo-tagging, the price may be worth it. If you really don't need to geo-tag, then leave it be. For me, its slow but reliable so far.

Sorry, but GPS barely functions
I bought the Aokatec AK-G2 in late 2012 for my Nikon D600. Honestly, it's pretty bad. It's small enough not to be intrusive, so I've kept it on the camera all the time, but it's mostly as a wishful gesture. it works for about 10 percent of my pictures or less. I generally only get GPS coordinates at night, and after it's been trying for a really long (>15 minutes) trying. When I traveled to the Philippines, I hoped it'd be stronger (being geographically close to China and all), but it only settled once, on my 12th day there, and not again. It works just well enough to convince me that having a working GPS would be nice. Shame this one has been so marginal.

Works very well MOST of the time - but still very worthwhile!
I bought this to use on my D600. As others have said, it was REALLY tight getting into the slot on the side of the camera the first time, but it loosened up over time...no big deal. At first it took HOURS to find its location, but after it did, it doesn't take long for it to recover each time it's inside or turned off...only seconds usually. Even after a flight to a different time zone, it took only about 20 minutes to figure out where it was...not too bad. The power drain on the camera battery is really not bad...I ran it all day and by the end of the day the battery still showed about 40% life, so as long as you recharge every night the battery won't be an issue. However, there are TWO points that I think need to made, based on my experience with this product; one is good, and one is bad. The GOOD is that the accuracy of the GPS readings is simply stunning....sometimes within mere inches of where I was standing. The BAD is that I set my D600 to use the device to set the clock on my camera, and on a small percentage of the photos, not only was the time wrong, but the date was wrong too! So if you depend on the timestamp in your files for ordering your pics, do NOT let this device set the clock on your camera. All in all, I can heartily recommend this, especially at under $100. It got 4 stars instead of 5 because of the slow initial location hunting and because of the wrong date/time on a small percentage of my shots.

Lost in Location...
An absolute pain to get working correctly and always in need of a reset on my Nikon D5100. I'd estimate that 80% of the time the GPS simply doesn't lock in (regardless of where I am and how quickly my mobile phone locks on.) In the last few weeks I've given up and found that this now resides in a small pocket of my bag - where it likely won't be removed until I resign myself to throwing it away or selling it.

Geotagging Device
This unit works very well, placing the latitude and longitude readings in your EXIF files. You'll always know just where you were standing when a picture was taken.
