Question 1

How much lysine in a "scoop" dose? How many doses in a 100 gram jar?

Accepted Answer

Hi, according to what it says on the jar, "contains approximately 500 mg of L-Lysine Hydrochloride in a palatable base" I'm not sure about how many doses in a 100 gram jar (it doesn't say on the jar). I only use it occasionally, so it lasts a really long time for me. They suggest one rounded scoop twice daily. I usually just use one scoop at night in their wet food and it seems to work well enough. The scoop is small, I would guess maybe around 1/8 teaspoon? A very good product at any rate and my cats seem to love the taste and will eat it when mixed in with their wet food. Hope this helps.

Question 2

What are the ingredients in Vetoquinol Viralys Powder?

Accepted Answer

I want to let people who are giving this product to their cats, what hydrolyzed food ingredients are. Hydrolysis is basically chemical digestion. The protein, in this case fish & liver, is boiled in sulfuric aced for anywhere from several hours to more than a day to break down the proteins. Then lye is added to raise the ph back to neutral. Just what I want to give my cats. Or not!!! This is the trouble with buying from the internet. The full label is usually not available & even when it is, the print is usually so tiny, not to mention blurred, as to be impossible to read.

Question 3

What is the shelf life?

Accepted Answer

If you buy it from us. To_Your_Health, you will be guaranteed to get the freshest products available. As of today, December 28, 2015, the expiration date on the containers in stock should be December 2017 or better. Thanks.

Question 4

My cat won't eat wet food & only treats that R crunchy on outside & soft inside. Which might be best chance I have ?

Accepted Answer

The same maker of the this powdered form of L-lysine also makes this supplement is the form of a crunchy treat and a flavored paste (no affiliation). I recommend (as a vet) 500 mg twice daily to begin with, you can titrate up or down to the most effective dose, but always follow the recommendation of your veterinarian. Also note that l-lysine is most effective against the respiratory/ocular symptoms caused by feline herpes virus, a viral (but not venereal) disease most cats have been exposed to and, just like love, herpes virus lasts forever. The amino acid L-lysine is believed to inhibit the recrudescence of the virus during periods of physiologic stress.
