Product Description A compelling, inviting trio date with guitarist Bill Frisell and drummerBrian Blade, which combines the singing melodicism of Americanfolk music, the heightened communication of progressive jazz, and anentrancing, airy openness!Master trumpeter Ron Miles injects his radiant, lyrical tone directly intothe lifeblood of American music on his latest release. The album findsthree genre-defying musical masters at their creative best, lacing easycamaraderie with virtuosic interaction. Featuring performances of grace, elegance, and luminosity, this is modern jazz chamber music in the bestsense of the term. Review Trumpeter Ron Miles revels in wide-open spaces ... But more importantly,he makes judicious use of silent passages to craft melodies that aremagnetically lyrical yet just off-kilter enough to convey the right amount ofmystery. --Downbeat

Each of the players make distincitve contributions to the music and its fun to hear three jazz masters working together. The Fellowship of Three
If it wasn't unusual enough that the lead instruments on "Circuit Rider" are trumpet and electric guitar, it's even more unusual that the two share equal space. On this follow-up to " Quiver ," Ron Miles again plays an expressive trumpet as Bill Frisell shines on guitar. On drums, Brian Blade plays a strong supportive role. The music is cerebral, quirky and serious. Miles or Frisell will at times lay down a progression of chords that the other will improvise upon. Most of the time however, both musicians lead simultaneously. It is this complex interplay that is so beautiful. The notes of the guitar and trumpet dance with each other; each song is like a poetic ballet of notes. The title track exemplifies this musical dynamic. This sort of chemistry could only exist between long-time musicians. 'Comma' is fun while 'Jive Five' plays jazz with delicious chord changes. Brian Blade's playing comes forward on 'The Flesh is Weak.' 'Dancing Close and Slow' is bluesy. The 'Circuit Rider' features a clever arrangement and great solos. 'Angela' is an example of the chamber sensibility that is threaded throughout this material. Indeed, the band finds a unique way of successfully combining genres and musical ideas that many would consider disparate. The album closes with the blues: not just one type, but 'Two Kinds of Blues.' "Circuit Rider" stands as an even match to its 2012 predecessor. This album is sure to ride often on your sound system's circuits.

A SPECIAL SENSE OF JOY
Ron Miles, Bill Frisel and Brian Blade make a very special album, very intesive and depth . There is always something magic in the air, a special sensibility. In this moment you can found a important number of jazz musicians that take the folk , or something call americana to make music. In this case is something more complicate but this roots are inside the music. Ron Miles is a perfect companion of Bill Frisell and Blade is the point of junction of all this things. Is not coincidence that this guys are interesred in the music of Jimmy Giuffre, like Dave Douglas, or Charles Mingus, like this new generation of jazz player. Each new record of Ron Miles is a gift for the audience.

Always great to witness evolution in a band...
The follow-up album to 2012's live recording 'Quiver' (4 stars) shows the extent to which these guys have really got a handle on each other - creating an equally marked feeling of spontaneity, warmth and fun in what is a studio environment. These things either happen or they don't; and it's a credit to Ron Miles's composing skills as well as the trio's musicianship that we're given such an intimate insight into the beautiful process that is deconstructed jazz. Each track is a musical narrative - cohesive, imaginative and quirky with Frisell's country and blues influences spicing up the mix. The format and sound invites comparison with Paul Motian's latter-day trio work with Lovano and Frisell (again); the results here I'd suggest being even more accessible and enjoyable. Nice work guys!
