Pan De Oro was founded by three Food Scientists at Heublein Inc, a Hartford, CT based food/liquor company. Food was their vocation. Heublein was in charge of development for product lines such as A1 Steak Sauce, Ortega Mexican Foods, Smirnoff Vodka, and Jose Cuervo, to name a few. When R.J Reynolds (RJR) acquired Heublein in 1984, the three were faced with the prospect of moving to RJR’s facility in California. Rather than making the move, they decided to form their own company that would satisfy a growing need in the northeast for tortillas/tortilla chips. Their work with Ortega had exposed them to the growing demand, as Mexican Food was making its move into the region. Using their experience in the food industry, as well as "severance" pay they received from Heublein, they acquired the necessary facility/equipment to found Severance Foods Inc., with Pan De Oro has the in-house brand. Pan De Oro is our way of being creative and offering customers a more affordable snack food that is organic, non-gmo, and gluten-free more health, less money.
