Excellent heatsink, one of the best purchases I have made!
I was honestly not expecting much when I ordered these for my NVMe SSD drives but I have been blown away by how well they work. I bought them to cool the SSDs in my laptop as they were thermal throttling when under heavy load, I would notice a marked slowdown once the Controller temperatures passed the 80C mark. The laptop is too thin for anything else so I figured maybe these copper heatsinks would help, they have exceeded all expectations! Each heatsink comes in a sealed plastic case with instructions, two non-conductive silicone thermal pads (0.5mm and 1.0mm), wipes to clean the SSD, and three rubber bands to attach the heatsink to the drive. I ended up not using the rubber bands and used kapton tape instead because my NVMe drives are single sided and the laptop is very thin. I needed to keep the heatsink+thermal pad (0.5mm) + drive (single sided) setup as thin as possible. Performance wise, my drives have not exceeded 58C on the NAND and 75c on the Controller. My temperatures before installing the heatsinks were 70C on the NAND and 89C on the Controller. My drives no longer thermal throttle and will happily handle any and all work that I throw their way, regardless of how heavy the workload is. I believe that the addition of these heatsinks has completely removed thermal throttling on my NVMe drives and improved the performance of my system. Anyone looking for a low profile and effective solution for NVMe thermal throttling should buy these heatsinks. They are well made, affordable, easy to install, and will provide immediate noticeable results in reducing temperatures on your NVMe drives. My experience has shown me that they offer phenomenal performance and benefit for the price so if you have a laptop with NVMe drives that throttle, buy this heatsink!

So far, so good... ssd peak temperature is about 10 C degrees cooler.
I bought this because I had tried a heatsink with cooling fins that turned out to be so tall that the laptop's bay cover couldn't be closed. (Laptop is an Acer Aspire E 15.) So I decided to try this "low profile" 1mm thick flat copper heatsink, and chose to install the 0.5mm silicone thermal pad instead of the 1mm pad. I did an extra step during installation, which I learned long ago when I installed a cpu heatsink using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. The Arctic instructions said to do a preliminary spreading of a small mound of paste onto the metal surfaces of cpu and heatsink, using a plastic card (such as a credit card) to spread the paste from center toward edges, in order to fill the microgrooves in the metal surfaces with paste, displacing air from the microgrooves. Then all the excess paste from the surface is wiped away (with a lint-free cloth or coffee filter), leaving behind only the paste in the microgrooves, which gives the metal a darker gray appearance. (For a cpu heatsink, more paste would then be applied to the cpu for the usual, well-known thermal paste application step.) I did the extra step to the side of the M.2 copper heatsink that would face the ssd drive, to fill its microgrooves with paste, which in theory should improve the heat transfer from the silicone thermal pad to the copper. As a preliminary test of the heatsink's effectiveness, I ran a full antivirus scan of the ssd (Comodo antivirus on Windows 10), and used HWiNFO to observe the ssd temperature. It peaked at about 60C. Before I installed the heatsink I'd seen it peak over 70C on occasion. Thus, so far so good. I presume a better test of the new peak temperature would involve some writing to the ssd... perhaps with a drive speed benchmark test. But instead I'll probably just leave HWiNFO running in background for a few weeks and then look at the maximum temperature it records during those weeks. (Ssd is a Crucial MX250.) I used all three of the white "rubber bands" to hold together the ssd/pad/copper sandwich. Those rubber bands are my only concern... perhaps they will dry out over time and eventually fail. The hardest step of the installation was peeling the plastic protective film from the silicone thermal pad without tearing the thin pad -- it's hard to get a corner of the film to lift off the pad -- but I was patient and got it done.

Installed easily
This installed easily and fit exactly like it should. As others have said the bands are hard to get on. I thought for sure I was going to break one, but amazingly they didn't break. The bands hold the copper heatsink on really well. The included thermal pads work well, you get two of different thickness I went with the thin one. This kit seems to keep my ssd cool. I wouldn't know a difference since I was repairing a laptop that didn't have an ssd to start with. I didn't install the new ssd without the pads to test it either. I can say it works so far as I haven't had any overheating issues as I program and compile lots of C code.

Easy install, (aฬถnฬถdฬถ ฬถfฬถiฬถtฬถsฬถ) but does not fit a Dell Inspiron 5570 Laptop
Fast and simple installation on a Crucial P-1 1TB NVME Drive, and the whole Assy easily fits inside a Dell Inspiron 5570. I only used the .5mm thermal pad, but there appears to be enough room that I could install the thicker pad as well. I can't testify to how well the cooler works, as I just installed the NVME drive yesterday. I didn't install the heat-sink until after first installing the drive and setting up and configuring the OS. Rather than cloning my previous drive, I did a clean install of Win 10. After a couple hours of installing updates, drivers, and additional software my NVME drive reached a temp of 44 C. I then installed the heat-sink and have only reached a max of 32 C since. However, it should be noted that I haven't been running any heavy data transfer apps (and typically don't). Time will tell how well it works. Update: 1 year on and still works fine. My NVME drive runs with roughly within the same temp range as mentioned above. As such, I revised the "Overall rating" up a star. Update: 4 years on. I noticed that the corner of my laptops base where the NVME drive was located was starting to pull apart. Upon investigation, I found that the plastic post that the external base screw had broken off. With the heat shield installed the base remained "springy", but when I removed the shield it stayed in place. Fortunately I was able to repair the post with a little plumber's ABS cement. Though I was able to install everything securely 4 years ago, the pressure and maybe heat from the NVME drive seems to have caused the failure of the plastic post.

Great heatsink for Dell XPS 8900
I just installed this heatsink today on a Dell XPS 8900 that is running a Crucial 1TB NMVe SSD on the motherboard. There isn't much room between the SSD and the overlying graphics card, so heatsink options are limited. Result: 6 degree Celsius (11 degree Fahrenheit) reduction of Crucial SSD temp in both chip and controller (use HWiNFO to see the two temps for the SSD). Chip temp went from 51C to 45C. Controller temp went from 54 to 48C. Fans have stopped cycling on and off at high rpm. There are three things I did outside of the instructions that came with the heatsink: 1. Remove Crucial label/sticker running the lenght of the chip/controller side of the SSD. This label was not a heat conductive label. Easy to remove. 2. Prep the CHIP-SIDE of the copper plate with thermal paste and scrub off the paste with a coffee filter. This is to fill the micro-grooves of the CHIP-SIDE of the copper plate (do not apply paste to top side, just the side contacting the chips/controller, and wipe off all the paste with the coffee filter). 3. Make a conductive "sandwich" with the two supplied adherent conductive strips that come in the package. I used the thicker strip on the bottom (motherboard) side of the SSD and the thinner strip on top of the chips/controller side. So here is the geography: motherboard, then thick strip, then SSD, then thin strip, then copper heatsink. Anyway, it gets the job done well enough to shut those fans up. Very happy so far.

Simple and Works Well!
I put this heat-sink on a Samsung 970 EVO Plus that was running hot in my Dell G5 5590. I am seeing about a 15 degree Celsius cooler difference overall which is pretty significant for a laptop. Furthermore, the temp on the Samsung doesn't get too hot when working under load and when I am done working the drive hard, the temp comes down pretty quickly. Installation of the heat-sink is straightforward, I liked the instructions that came with the heat-sink. You are offered two thermal pads, a .5mm and a 1mm thick pad. I was able to use the thicker pad in my Dell with no problems. The pad will fit perfectly over the controller and nand chips. The Samsung EVO has a plastic label covering these chips, which if you remove will void the warranty afaik. I took mine off so that the thermal pad can have direct contact with the chips. For me it's worth voiding the warranty to have the direct contact with the thermal pad. Rubber bands are provided to hold the heat-sink in place. They work pretty well. This heat-sink kit is a no-brainier to me. I am happy with the purchase and will buy again should the need arise.
