Silicone Airlock - Lactobacillus Fermentation Boss Valve

--Updated Review: Feb 6, 2016--I received a prompt refund and and a nice apology from the seller. Apparently they were in the process of moving, and my item had been improperly stored. I am raising my rating to 5 stars for excellent customer service, and a well designed product (which I didn't get a chance to use, but was able to inspect, and it is a quality item, good design, and will be MUCH more convenient to use than an airlock for fermentation. I'm looking forward to using my replacement set in the near future.--Original Review Dec 29, 2015--Two Stars. I'm very disappointed. When my 3 Boss Pickler Silicone Valves arrived, I opened the plastic bag and they smelled like cigarette smoke. Yuck. I tried washing one of them, twice, but it didn't get rid of the smoky odor.I will be returning them and will try to get a replacement set, and hopefully those won't smell like smoke. I will update my review once the replacement set arrives.Besides the odor, it seems well designed and I am really looking forward to using these instead of airlocks with my home-made Fido fermentation jars.

Just got this today with one of their drilled lids. Looks good so far. Easy installation, seems like it is airtight. Using it on 5L of sauerkraut. I wanted to try this one due to the water-filled airlocks getting moldy when I put one in my basement for storage. I have a really old house with a dirt basement. The food was fine, but it was a little disconcerting to see dark mold in the airlock when I brought it up after several weeks.I am hoping that this one will be what I am looking for to make fermenting even more of a no-brainer than it is already. Will try to remember to update if anything happens.

These are really great. I used them for the first time on some sauerkraut and they work just like they should. I didn't have to open the lids ever throughout the ferment, and there was no leakage whatever. It really is great, and I want more.So why did I give this only 3 stars? Because the item and shipping is seriously, severely overpriced.

Overpriced but effective. Gives me peace of mind when using a Fido Jar for fermenting. Although there are plenty of people that say the Fido Jars do not need a valve.

Well made product. Purchased with the drilled glass lids - fits perfectly. So far I have only used it to make water kefir (haven't tried sauerkraut yet).
