Brings me back to childhood!
I am so happy that Maria came out with this cookbook. There is nothing quite like Portuguese cooking; however, Azorean cooking is a special little niche you won't want to miss! Thanks to Maria I now have a beautiful cookbook chock full of recipes for amazing dishes from Sao Miguel...from appetizers, to entrees to desserts, this book is sure to please! Cannot wait to make the Shrimp Mozambique and Flan. I love that Maria's recipes are written as if she is standing right there in her apron, guiding you! This book is a must have addition to your cookbook library, and also would make a great gift. If you watched her show on PBS, "Maria's Portuguese Table", this is a perfect companion.

Overpriced
I have tried to like this cookbook, since it touts itself as a book about Azorean Portuguese cuisine but I find the recipes, for the most part, to be lacking and the book to be way too limited for the money. There are several books on the market about Portuguese cooking that have more interesting Azorean recipies without claiming to be from one region or another.Traditional Azorean cuisine is quite similar to the food from mainland Portugal except that the islanders tend to use lard more than olive oil and they spice many of the dishes with allspice, cinnamon,a hot pepper paste known as massa de malagueta or pimenta moida. Most Portuguese-American food memories are of this tasty cuisine from the Azores. I can only hope that one day someone will produce a "definitive" Azorean cookbook in English that will show the true origins of the food that grandma lovingly created.

Takes me back
I’m so happy to have discovered this cookbook. My family is from the Azores and these recipes are so reminiscent of those made by my mom. As any Portuguese person will tell you, recipes are rarely written down. Unless someone has learned from a parent those recipes would likely be lost to them forever. Enter Maria Lawton and that problem is solved. I under valued the love I had for the food of my youth. Whenever I would return to my parents home I would enjoy the tastes and smells of their food but never learned to cook them for myself or my family. By the time my mom developed Alzheimer’s it was too late. I thought they’d be lost to me forever but thankfully someone (Maria Lawton) had the wisdom to write some of them down and shared with the rest of us. The recipes are simple and tasty and take me back to my youth. What more can one ask of food. Thank you Maria Lawton for helping preserve a part of my Azorean heritage.

Touching base with my paternal roots.
My paternal grandparents were born in the Azores, my grandfather from Sao Miguel & my grandmother from Terceira. They met on the ship to the U.S., married and settled in New Bedford, where all of their children were born. My parents met the & were married at the Seaman's Bethel. Daddy spent 27 years in the Air Force, and I only knew his parents after they were in a nursing home. There were stories about how wonderful a cook my grandmother was, which I missed out on. The few recipes I have are "just a guess, she never measured & her her English wasn't great, have fun!". Mello's was my most exposure to Portuguese food. I have tried other cook books, they're close, but not quite what I remembered. This one-I am thrilled! It's a way to connect with my culture, and hopefully something that resonates with my children as well. The photos in the book were a lovely addition, and some of the author's family look a lot like some of my aunts and uncles (small islands, who know!). Thank you for the effort, love, and heart you put into this book. As soon as I can, I plan to buy 2 more copies, so that each of my children will have one.

Very let down
I was researching an Azorean cookbook and bought this one for all the positive reviews it has received. I just don't see it. $23 for a soft cover cookbook that is even small by cookbook standards. I appreciate the background story on how she came about the recipes, but for the money there should have been way more recipes involved. I will update my review as I cook some of the meals, but I feel burned for paying what I did for this.

Great for my Azorean husband
This book has the same recipes my husband grew up with and enjoys. It’s easy to follow and I’m so happy I can now cook things he likes! He doesn’t have to wait to go eat at the home of one of his friends or back to the Azores!

Excellent book in Azorean cooking!
Maria brings the tasty Azorean recipes o all of us who grew up with this style of food. It brought back so many memories of the dishes my grandmother, my parents and my aunts made when I was a girl. I loved her stories of her family and the details behind her recipes. If you or any of your family loves Portuguese food, especially from the Azores, get this book. It is easy to follow and the food is delicious!!! Bem apreveito!

Not many recipes. It could have explored more the subject
Not many recipes. It could have explored more the subject. Also, important to explore some alternative ingredients that can be found by those who do not live in Azores or USA

GET IT!!!!
After years of watching and eating some authenticity made Portuguese food.... I was soooooo excited to be able to make it myself and it taste just like my mom/aunts and grandma used to make it.These dishes are very true Portuguese recipes, and the way it’s written is very clear and so easy to understand. It’s hard to replicate our parents recipes because they cook by eye... and don’t really know how to explain how to make it in measurement form. This book... bang on... I love it.

Recipes from the Açores just like Mãe (Mom) makes.
I previously purchased 3 hard copies (for myself and gifts) of this amazing cookbook which has a wonderful collection of recipes from the Açores Portugal. These islands are where my family came from. Many of the recipes are very familiar and others are just as homey and delicious. Azorean recipes are different than recipes from the continental Portuguese recipes. It’s wonderful to have such a beautiful collection all in one book! I couldn’t stand to be anywhere without it so I also purchased a digital version because I never travel without my iPad.

Cooking made easy right at your fingertips
I’m excited to try out some of your recipes. I’m Portuguese myself and have made it quite a few of the items on your book however there are some stuff that I have been wanting to make and now I have them right at my fingertips. I glimpsed through the book and I am so happy that I purchased it. I can pass on this book to my children and so forth. Hoping that they will love cooking just as much as I do. Thank you 😋
