Loving You More in the Spirit of Etta James

If you buy this album you won't be able to take it out of your player! Leela James created a tribute to Etta James that really captures the soul and power of who she was. I've been playing this in the operating rooms at work and there is always one or more people who are knocked out, and NEED to know who's singing!Neo Soul seems like the best description of Ms James style, she's got the attitude of now, backed by deeply, rythmic, swinging beats. I am so proud of her and what's she's created for the rest of us! I know that this is blasphemous to say, but Leela's version of the song I'd Rather Go Blind, was just as good, if not better than the original. Consider going back, or discovering the music of Etta James, too. Don't forget Leela's youtube videos, especially Something's Got a Hold on Me! This is a good time to be alive!

I like this artist so as I listen to her music on this cd the more I like it !!

Delivery time. This was exactly what I expected.

Beautiful voice, but didn’t really care for the way the songs were delivered.

I found Leela James quite by accident recently but was instantly drawn in to what she delivers... solid R&B music. I bought "Loving you more...." and then went out and got everything else she has done. She made THAT kind of impression. True music, true art and a lot of fun. I feel hopeful that REAL music is being made out there and not just that stuff we are force fed by the music industry). Thank you Leela and I am looking forward to seeing you in Providence at the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, 10th Anniversary Show!!!If you love old school R&B you are going to love this CD.

She's my favorite artist gave it as a gift

great cd it was a gift for a friend she tells me it is very relaxig to listen to if you have long drives.

Nach ihrem unglaublichen debut 2003 (a change is gonna come)tat sie sich ja viele Jahre recht schwer, versuchte es erstmal mit standards (Doin' it again, war ok) und dann mit weichgespültem R&B (my soul, war weniger als ok). Damals (2010) war ich so enttäuscht, dass ich entgegen meiner sonstigen Gewohnheit eine Bewertung abgegeben habe, die ziemlich schlecht ausfiel (vorzeitiger Talentverfall etc.). Da es für Leela James neueste CD noch keine Bewertung gibt, will ich noch einmal meine Gewohnheiten brechen. Lange hat's gedauert aber jetzt ist sie zurück! Vielleicht nicht in die Soul- top 5 der letzten 5 Jahre aber auf jeden fall die des letzten Jahres. Der rauhe Schmelz auf der Stimme, der unter die Haut geht diesmal mit jeder Menge Stil und Atmosphere in Szene gesetzt, gleich 3 Tracks haben es auf meinen letzten Soulsampler geschafft. Rollender Groove mit '-something's got a hold on me', der old school funk von 'I'm loving you more every day' und die gänsehaut- erotik von 'I want to ta-ta you'. Ganz klare Kaufempfehlung und ich hoffe, sie macht so weiter.

Entrée sur le marché avec un album en forme de promesse empruntée à Sam COOKE, 'A Change's Gonna Come' (2005) comportant une renversante relecture du 'Don't Speak' de No Doubt, Leela JAMES n'a pas renversé les hiérarchies commerciales établies sur le segment des divas R&B. Elle est, pourtant, l'une des meilleures et, assurément, l'une des plus soul et des plus "vintage oriented" que je connaisse. Sur son second album, 'Let's Do It Again' (2009), elle avait multiplié les reprises les plus disparates (de Jagger/Richards à Foreigner en passant par tous les grands soul men des années soixante). Cette fois-ci, l'hommage vise la plus grande soul-diva sixties : Etta JAMES, décédée en 2012, à laquelle toutes les divas R&B/Rap qui prospèrent en tête de gondoles se sont empressées de faire allégeance. Dans son cercueil Etta JAMES n'était plus the matriarch of the blues : elle était, subitement, devenue the matriarch of R&B quoique l'on serait bien en peine d'avoir à considérer que la soul et le blues façon Etta JAMES eussent à voir avec le Rap ou le R&B des années 2000. Certes, Beyoncé avait joliment joué le rôle d'Etta dans 'Cadillac Records' (2008) mais elle n'avait livré que des reprises serviles.En cette année de commémoration, 2012, Leela JAMES ne se contente pas de poser avec les attributs de la défunte et, encore moins, de se livrer à un banal hommage en forme de reprises-pastiches. Mieux, elle entend réinterpréter "In the spirit of Etta James" (sic) un répertoire, somme toute, consacré. En d'autres termes, les fans d'Etta JAMES en seront pour leur frais. Il leur suffira d'écouter la relecture de 'I'd Rather Go Blind' (la signature-song d'Etta) pour se faire une idée du projet. Sans dénaturer le produit original, Leela JAMES s'en écarte infiniment plus qu'une Beth HART. De même, 'Something Got A Hold On Me' pris dans un tempo de transe funky-vaudoue. Autant le dire, c'est plutôt "Etta in the spirit of Leela James" qui aurait dû être le sous-titre de ce "Loving You More..." Par chance, Leela JAMES est aussi éloignée du Rap/R&B que ne l'était Etta. Cela nous vaut un superbe album, très soul-seventies, qui ne saurait entrer en concurrence avec les grosses productions des divas R&B du marché international actuel.

Don't be mislead by the change of tone, pace and intensity in this album by the wonderful Leela James. No, it's not as good as My Soul (which is an amazing album)- but that would be a big ask. This is still, with one or two tracks excepted, a lovely album that deserves to be bought and listened to. 'I'd Rather Go Blind'is simply gorgeous. Go girl.

Une chanteuse vraiment exceptionnelle pour un album de tres haute volee.A se procurer sans hesiter car il est vraiment excellent tout comme ses precedents albums.
