I don't expect to break even on the inverter for a couple of years, BUT, the panels are for emergency backup, and the inverter allows for saving a little money while the panels would normally be in storage. When power fails, I switch to a solar charge controller and a battery system. I went to unplug it and heard a pop inside. Initially I thought it was a just a fuse but after opening it up and replacing the burnt out fuse i wired it back up just for it short out again. The short is between positive and negative on the battery side inside the device.
