"In the deserts of Northern Colombia and Venezuela live the Wayuu People. An indigenous population that live in communities that consist of roughly 5 houses called rancherias. Historically they are a nomadic people, but in recent times they have come to settle into specific areas of La Guajira. They also produce amazing handmade artisan products such as dresses, bracelets, belts, scarves, and of course the famous mochilas. The single thread mochila, or una hebra as the Wayuu call it, is made using the traditional one stitch style of crocheting. It takes twice as long to make a single thread mochila when compared to a double thread, which ends up being about 30 days. Elegant, authentic, and one of a kind, these traditional mochilas are the perfect bag for any season or occasion. Typically, the woman makes the base of the mochila and the strap is made by one of the men in the family. This adds to the uniqueness of every mochila and design. Each family has its own design and pattern that they use, almost like a family crest. This mochila is brought to you by Buena Onda. Buena Onda is a lifestyle brand that works directly with the Wayuu families, so their are no middle men or outside organizations involved. That means we pay fair prices for the mochilas and have an ongoing relationship with the Wayuu. Our hope is to bring social enterprise to the Wayuu in order to create community ties, empowerment, and development. However, we are not looking to change the culture and traditions of the area, but rather allow the people to decide how they would like to grow. Buena Onda means “Good Vibration,” and that is what we try to embody in every aspect of our work. Join the Buena Onda today and start rocking your one of a kind mochila. Approximate Dimensions: Height - 11 1/2 in., Diameter - 9 in., Strap - 42 in. (Drop length 21 in.)"
