The Ultra Train is specifically designed for mountain training, a new product concept from SALEWA for the S16 season. Developed in partnership with MICHELIN Technical Soles, the design is focused on excellent traction and stability. The aggressive lugged outsole ensures perfect traction, so you can concentrate on your training and enjoy the mountains, whether rapid hiking, long-distance technical trail running or uphill interval training. The shoe is built around MICHELIN’s Ultra Train outsole, which was developed exclusively with SALEWA. Its special Outdoor Compound has a sculpted and grooved design, inspired by mountain biking tires, that works with the midsole’s Motion Guidance technology to support the foot’s natural movement on uneven terrain. In addition, Adaptive Eyelets and SALEWA’s 3F Total System add support to the mid foot by extending the 3F System into the lacing area. This increases stability and ensures a more precise wrapping fit.

Quality shoe with one functional flaw
Good for: Experienced hikers and trail runners who value a light, non-waterproof shoe with aggressive, sticky tread, and whose feet and legs are conditioned not to need a lot of support. Not good for: Street running (a waste of tread), easy trail running (likewise), people who need the support of a stiffer sole or more than moderate cushioning, and people whose feet don't fit Salewa's lasts (which tend to be narrow).Discussion: The shoe is light, comfortable, flexible, and grippy. The flaw that made me send this shoe back: speed laces. Speed laces tighten the whole shoe the same amount. They can't be adjusted by eyelet. This means the fit isn't adjustable, either. I needed these shoes to be tighter over my (narrow) instep, but having them tight enough over the instep meant the rest of the shoe was too tight. You COULD cut the speed laces and use regular laces, but that would make the shoe unreturnable and wasn't a step I felt comfortable taking with shoes I couldn't properly test before modifying. But if you're in the right demographic and don't mind speed laces, this shoe has a lot going for it.Pros: Aggressive, sticky lugs, lightweight, highly flexible sole, reasonably tough upper.Cons: Toe bumper could be more substantial. I'd like to see a pull loop on the heel. And the previously mentioned speed laces.

I love these shoes
I love these shoes. It took a couple days to get used to the arch and the stiffness, but once I did, I never wanted to take these shoes off (except, of course, feet need to breathe after 7 hours in the Grand Canyon). I feel solid trail running in these in addition to hiking; no slipping in the sandy or wet terrain. They fit perfectly for me, which means they might not for everyone else (?). I have a wider toe box, high arches, thin heels, so I can vary from 7.5 (in heels) to 8.5 (I like half sizing up in running shoes). I bought these in an 8. They do probably run a bit narrow, but I like the snugness--the pair of Salomons I had felt clunky and too wide.

Great Traction & Comfort
These shoes have the best traction, even better than my hiking boots. I paid $86 and when I put my foot in there I knew I hhad found a gem. They have traction even on a suface with sand. I would love to buy another pair but now they cost $153. (Almost double!) and I am not paying that. I will keep looking. Great shoe, the Michelin bottom is fantastic!

Amazing.
I run a lot in the mountains usually in inclement weather and these have been Flawless in terms of performance. The only downside are the pull strings which the little flaps that hold them break very easily. I hope the manufacturer will consider reinforcements.

(Man schwitzt leicht). Daher 1 Stern Abzug.

Vesciche solo in condizioni estreme.
