## Description

Product Description MORA "162" carving knife with hook 5.5 cm stainless steel, double edged, birch handle. Safety Warning UK_18_knife

Review: Great - 10/10, very sharp and exactly what I needed.
Review: Great hook knife - I always thought that the 162 was double edged, I believe it was originally advertised as double edged. But on the package it had conflicting references, half said 164 and the other side 162 . It's fine I'll make good use of it . But I was expecting a double edged. I'll purchase that one elsewhere.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: My hook knives have been great; Can I get the sheathes for them, they weren't available when I bought mine?**
A: Mine came with one, I'm sure if you contact them you could get one

**Q: Is this the same as the 163, except no pouch?**
A: No. 163 and 164 are different, from the pix

**Q: Are special sharpening stones or rods needed to sharpen the curved edges of these knives? People warn these are tricky to sharpen but offer no advice.**
A: This particular Mora hook blade should come sharp out of the package. To keep it sharp, and get it even sharper, I recommend using a curved leather strop (Beavercraft Hook Knife Strop, about $30 bucks) and green or white sharpening compound. Basically, I use my strop any time I feel the blade is not cutting at its sharpest. I can detect that the cuts are requiring more pressure, so I run the blade on the strop several passes on both sides as needed, testing the cutting ability of the blade each time, and repeating the stropping if necessary. This seems to keep the blade optimal throughout the project. A more budget-friendly option is to use a dowel (use a 5/8" diameter dowel) with a fine grit wet-dry sandpaper glued to it. It might behoove you to have a variety of grits from 600 up to 1000 with a polishing compound rubbed onto the paper, but the heavier grits would be reserved for more intensive sharpening. There are articles and videos online detailing different methods of this. Just don't use the rougher grits if your blade only needs a touch up. Once your blade is sharp, you only need to strop it as needed or use a very fine grit to maintain its edge. In fact, I don't recommend sharpening stones or lower grits unless your blade shows signs of minor nicks or damage that needs smoothing out. To detect nicks or significant dull areas, look at the blade dead-on with a bright light behind you (that is shining on the blade edge) and look for small bright spots/reclective areas on the blade edge. If you have a magnifying glass or strong magnification reading glasses, it is a breeze to examine the edges of any of your blades or chisels. Tiny bright areas along the blade are where it has been nicked or flattened and needs to be brought back to a fine edge. A fine edge shouldn't show brighter and darker areas, but should be uniform in appearance. You shouldn't see light reflecting from the blade edge. There are also cylindrical diamond knife sharpeners that would work if the blade is dull and needs more than a strop and compound touch-up. Hope this helps.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mora is mora
*by J***E on 4 February 2022*

Sharp or of the box and does everything it’s supposed to do well. The handle is simple and easy to hold in different grips, it can be a bit rough at first but with some use or a coat of wax it’s extremely comfortable. The blade is thin and bevelled at a good angle, it cuts well and only needed one strop to carve out a kuksa. Great knife and definitely worth it for any carving you’re doing.
