Using this Pruning Shears has me amazed how it does the job.
I bought this same pruning shear years ago and never used it. I poo poo it because it seemed cheezie and rattled. I used it recently because I ran out of the HD pruner's. This thing is like a Timex, it keep on ticking. I like the ratchet mechanism, the feel of the hand grip and the sharpness of the blade. I'm doing a serious cutting on my Ligustrum Bushes. In 2 days I have filled 20x33 gallon bags with this cutter. It's good for most of the branches up to 3/4 inches in diameter, on occasion using a second hand to finish. When the rachet drops to next the next level the cutter gets harder to finish with one hand. I made a lot of cuts with pruner. The blade seems hard enough to take the punishment. So, here I am back again, hoping to find it again and there it was in Amazons purchase history of 2 or 3 years ago. So, now I have a spare. Oh, use GLOVES, because the bar between the index finger and the next will get irritated by the heavy cuts. Grip everything you hold to cut with all your fingers. A dangling pinky is vulnerable. Hold items back away from cutter area.

Power to cut.
I've only used it for a few minutes to test it and it is exactly what I was hoping for. Easy to use, lightweight and effortless power. I would recommend it to anyone and if necessary will buy it again.

These are decent pruners, but not the best I have used.
I bought these pruners because I have loved other ratcheting pruners in the past. When my old Gardener's Farmer pair finally quit on me after several years of abuse and use, I decided to try these pruners as they got good reviews, and the price was very appealing. While they aren't bad, they're not quite what I loved about the GF pruners. The ratcheting action on these Gonicc pruners feels delayed. On thin branches to be pruned the initial squeeze of the pruner doesn't cut at first nor does it ratchet down to meet the branch. It like you have to quickly clutch twice in secession to have the pruner engage the branch to be cut. Annoying to say the least. Once it does engage, the ratcheting is good and the cut clean and easy. We'll see how long these last, but in the future, I will probably go back to my GF pruners instead.

No more painful hands!
Love these ergonomic cutters. I no longer have to hurt my hands so much having to grip so hard to cut, these REALLY help!

Durable enough for softer woods.
This is a comfortable tool to use. The ratcheting feature does takr some getting used to, but the power it achieves makes the additional effort moot. I have run this little thing through its paces, cutting everything from lilacs to osage orange. After 2 weeks of heavy daily use the pin at the ratchet has bent slightly...and as a result it will not remain fully closed when locked. The blade is still as sharp as it was out of the package, and it still functions well enough, but I am planning to replace the pin. I also wish the handles were made of a heavier material, seems like a point of inevitable failure. Overall, decent product for a relatively low price...but I will be looking for something heavier built for more work on the harder woods.

Really happy I bought this . . . once I figured out how to use it
I am a woman in my late 50s with tendinitis in both of my wrists from years of typing. I bought these ratchet pruners knowing that other reviewers had said they would not consistently open or close cuz the locking mechanism was too stiff. At first that was true for me also – could not get the darn things to open a time or two and then regularly could not get them to close. However, I did two things: First I wrapped a little piece of Velcro strap around the handle, so that if it wouldn’t close while I was out in the garden, I could always just strap it shut for safety. Second, I figured out that if I squeezed the handles together slightly, to relieve pressure on the locking mechanism, I could open and close them pretty consistently. Just *every* once in a while the lock still kind of hangs up, and I think that happens especially after a lot of ratcheting, and that is when I use the Velcro strap. This was my first time buying ratchet pruners and I did not know how to use them, and there are no instructions basically. So at first I had no idea what I was doing and I found them very frustrating. For me the trick is to gently “pump” them – you squeeze until you feel some resistance from the branch or stem, you let go slightly and then squeeze again and you will probably hear the ratchet click, and then you can do that one more time. Once I started gently “pumping” them, they’ve worked great, and I am very happy to have them.

It broke after cutting a few stems.
I was excited to get these and when I started cutting my roses with them for the first time I was happy with the sharpness and handle, but after only a few cuts, it stopped working. As you can see in the picture a piece fell off. Very disappointed.

Works fantastically
I love it. Very sharp and cuts through almost anything and staying sharp so far. Even used it to cut open some cardboard boxes. Love the safety lock. I will cherish and take care of this one.

Real ratchet power
My Am-Tech ratchet pruners (two pairs) finally gave up the ghost after many years' hard use (unfortunately both at the same time as I'd bought them at the same time) and I needed to replace them immediately, before it became too late in the year to do some final essential pruning. Unfortunately the Am-Techs don't seem to be the same beasts any more (how often does this happen?...) so it was back onto Amazon to look at the reviews of other ratchet pruners. Impressed with the reviews for these Gonicc (who?) pruners I sent for a pair - fully intending to return them if they didn't do the job because, having previously bought pairs from garden centres and thrown them across the lawn in frustration, this time I was not going to end up with more duds. I'm back here to buy a third pair of these pruners (so I can keep a pair to hand at all key locations in the garden)... What pruners need to do is cut (and so many of the damned things just don't - they chew) - and these cut like a hot knife through butter. They cut through pretty slim twigs (not all ratchet pruners do) and they cut through amazingly thick branches (for pruners, obviously) using the ratchet mechanism. I had a lot to do because of the failure of my ancient trusty Am-Techs, but these pruners did it all. And my hands weren't even tired. Pruners need to cut. obviously, but they also need to sit easily and comfortably in the hand, have a ratchet mechanism which can be used without strain, not get stuck in thicker branches, and be easy to lock and unlock (a hurdle at which many ratchet pruners fall). These babies do it all, effortlessly. Obviously, having just bought these three pairs of Goniccs, I can't speak about their longevity but I can't see any weak points and I haven't felt any of the wrong sort of 'give' which would lead me to believe the pruners won't last. They are easy to clean and they seem pretty resistant to moisture. Absolutely recommended.
