Size:16 oz  |  Color:Blackbird Poet's Paint Waterglass Paint in Blackbird is a rich true black color/ What is Waterglass Paint? Waterglass Paint is a chalk-based paint made with a touch of liquid glass. It will impart an exquisite chalk finish rivaling the best chalk style paints, while also providing an exceptionally hard and durable surface. Poet's Paint Waterglass Paint provides excellent adhesion to most surfaces including wood, stone, brick, plastic, metal and concrete with no priming or sanding required. Poet's Paint Waterglass Paint can be used over previously waxed, painted or varnished surfaces. For a beautiful matte like finish apply one or two coats. We recommend using a synthetic brush over a natural brush. Once dry, you can leave as is or apply a wax and distress the surface. For a unique effect, apply a base coat in the color of your choice, let dry and apply another color as your top coat. Distress the surface using sandpaper to allow the base coat to show through. Poet's Paint Waterglass Paint is a Low odor and Low VOC chalk-based paint. HINTS & TIPS If you experience problem areas or "bleed through" which can occur with all chalk-based paints, apply shellac on the problem area, let dry and apply paint. If you wish to minimize brush strokes, start by using a synthetic brush; thin paint with a small amount of water; sand in between coats with a fine grade sand paper. This is not a chalkboard paint.

Fantastic product!
This was my first time using any kind of chalk paint. I picked Poets based on the reviews and the fact that is was easier to get them Annie Sloan. I painted my entire kitchen cabinets. Took 4 1/2 cans of the Vintage white and about a 1/2 a can of the Blackbird black and I am in love with the results! Three coats of the white but that is expected since I was going lighter, and only two coats of black. Started out my first stroke with a foam roller and realized that technique did not work, so I painted the whole thing by brush. Did not sand anything, and used a poly as a top coat since these are highly used cabinets. Can't wait to start painting something else!

Great paint
This was my first painting project. I painted over wood furniture that had already been painted lavender for a girl's room with this Poet's Paint. It covered the lavender and left a beautiful neutral matte soft white. I used chip brushes and foam brushes and quickly learned chip brushes are the quickest way to go by far. You can paint inside with it because it hardly emits a smell. I did not wax or seal as I wanted the solid matte look of chalk paint. One can goes a very, very long way.

Easy and very quick to apply
It took 2 coats to paint a dark project, as expected. But wow! FULL thick coverage. Easy and very quick to apply. I noticed brush strokes, so I will change my brush to a 'china brush' and see if that helps. Otherwise, this product is pretty authentic. No need for wax or sealer, but for my pieces I will apply wax to enhance the color. The colors are true and the range is perfect. I like how they will custom make a color for you.One more thing, A little goes a looooooong way here. I've done a lot of painting and I've only touched the surface of the can.I'm thinking of doing my cabinets now, and unsure how many to buy because its not your typical Latex paint we're so used to using.Update 3/28/16: I waxed the furniture with min-wax after chalk paint and it's a beautiful hard surface. This is the best paint I've ever worked with.Update 4/4/2016: I've painted my cabinets (uppers and lowers) in under 4 hours!! This stuff is very forgiving. You must wait for the paint to cure before applying the minwax - but the sample door I did has a super hard surface and seems durable to withstand the punishments of the kitchen chef and cleaner (moi). Also, because I did stark white and high gloss (bleh) to antique white with satin finish, I only needed one coat. I was able to the upper and lowers with 5/8 can. Here's a pic of the comparison. Left is soft hue Poet's chalk paint. Right is bright and stark white Latex high gloss paint.

Thumbs up! Great chalk paint, great colors
I buy desirable, vintage furniture and redo it with chalk paint and wax. Then I sell it. I love this paint for furniture. So do my clients. I bought several colors and each of them have been a winner. I could not find the red on Amazon which means I can't find it any where. Too bad. This paint goes on smoothly. It is not overly difficult to mix up, like some chalk paints I've used. This brand seems to have a bit more sticking power. Takes a little more sanding to distress than some of the others I've tried. I always wax my pieces, but I've realized that this paint could easily go without the waxing. It's that durable and has a nice sheen without wax. Vintage White and Cashmere (gray) are two of my favorite colors. I've also tried their Vintage 50'ss Green, Vintage Silk Blue, Seaside, and Blackbird. If they ever get any Ancient Red on Amazon, I'll be purchasing it as well.

I want to chalk paint everything now!
This was my first time using chalked paint and I was so happy with this product. It was so smooth and creamy. It covered in one coat even though I used two. I then used a coat of clear wax and a dark wax. I'm in love with this product. I tried a different brand for another project afterwards because I wanted a color Poets Paint didn't carry and I found out how superior Poet's Paint truly is. I hope they start carrying more colors because I want to paint everything now! I put a before and after of my kitchen cabinets. They were painted black when we moved in and I painted them with the Poets Paint Stonehenge and I did sand them first as shown in one half of the before.

Poets Paint Waterglass Chalk Paint - Vintage White
Very good product. Brushes on easily and smoothly, dries relatively fast and hard, clean up is a breeze. This was my first experience with chalk paint of any brand, so nothing to compare it to in that respect; however, the product performed as advertised. We used it to refinish an 80's type dark wood finished dresser and queen sized head board and foot board in our oldest kid's room. I used three coats on everything (and a fourth coat on the dresser top) likely a bit overkill, but I was very happy with the results and wanted the finish to last. Also sealed with 3-4 coats of a polycrylic product to protect finish. Still have over half of second can left after painting. I didn't sand between coats of paint and can see some brush marks in finished product (another rookie mistake I guess some would say); however, I am pleased with the finish and find no faults in the brush strokes, as they were much more noticeable in the garage than in the room. Our next project is using the same product in the Driftwood Grey color to redo our master BR furniture. Again, can't compare this to any other product, but I will say that the ease of use and color were perfect for our situation. Highly recommend and have purchased two more cans in the Driftwood Grey for aforementioned project. The attached pictures feature awful lighting and picture quality but all I could pull together at the moment.

Pricey, but exactly what I was looking for
Exactly what I was looking for! I scowered everywhere looking for something like this. When I came across this paint I was so happy! The results were more than I could have expected. I think I did have to use more paint than expected, and the price is rather pricey so that is the ONLY reason I am giving it a 4 star review. I can understand paying $35 for a gallon, but not a quart. I had to end up buying two quarts to refinish a corner cabinet and a buffet BUT I will have more paint for a future project. All in all I am very happy with the paint and will definitely buy again should I need another color.
