It is not what you are used to, if you solder, weld, or braze
I was hesitant to try this after reading all the other reviews, but after some trial and error, and error, it worked quite well, and as advertised.A few things that others might find helpful:Chemical cleaning is important, remove any oil, paint, or other dirt. Solvent or even flux will help a bit, but after that..Mechanical cleaning is a MUST. Wire brush, sanding, or machining. The outer oxidation layer that is on aluminum after it is exposed to the air for even a short period of time MUST BE REMOVED.Temperature control is critical. It appears to have a very narrow window of functionality compared to what you would experience soldering copper pipe , or brazing. Having some experience controlling heat with a torch will shorten the learning curve.I ended up using the welding rod kind of like a brush to put the solder/braze where I wanted it.It also appears to have very low wicking ability. My guess here is it is possibly partially temperature related, as the inside of the piece being worked will have a lower temperature then the side facing the flame. I did find that when I could access the other side of the item being connected, I could do a nice connection without affecting the side already done.(I really do not know if this is actually soldering or brazing, it acts a bit more like brazing, but it is...different)From a strength point of view, I did not test to the point of destruction, but I did test to a much higheer level than the part would be subjected to in operation. In one operation I joined an 1/8" x 3" round flat plate to a 2 1/2" x .065" tube joined only on the outside of the tube, then chucked the tube in the lathe and cut the plate concentrically taking as much as an .020" bite without the parts separating or the joint failing. The joint, or repaired area is harder than 6061 T6 aluminum and machines, drills, and threads nicely.A little bit of rod goes a long way, and I am looking forward to trying it on some cast alum repairs.

Didn't work on my ATV ramps.
Did not work for me. Bought this item to repair my Warner ATV ramps. Can't get the thick ramp aluminum hot enough with a basic propane Bernz to get rods to melt correctly. But worked on stuff like soda cans and super thin metal.

Flawless Function
I have tried many of the imported, supposed "Low Temp" aluminum brazing rods with little success as compared to this product. I use MAP gas for my aluminum brazing and find that this rod takes very little heat and forms a nice, clean bead that fastens components together. The strength of the fused components is nearly unbreakable. The most important factor for success is the aluminum material prep process. If the aluminum pieces are clean, the bond will be easy and offer long service. A bit Spendy for price, but end result is worthy.

Is Alumaloy a total waste of time and money?
The peeps giving this product a good rating must be welding gods or full of it. I hate to say it however Alumaloy has been a total waste of time and money..I have been welding- fabricating for 20+ years and so far this product is 100% useless! despite all the time and preparation to bond a small aluminum Throttle body adapter plate to aluminum.Supercharger snout (SL55 AMG) 2 days trying! Alumaloy is a joke. I remember how easy it was sweating flux and solider pipes wile doing top outs and soils for new home construction way back in my teenage years... Do I know what I am doing? My experience level? Visit my youtube channel BMWhips to see some of my epic builds. yeah Alumaloy sux

Did not work for me
I have a aluminum flag pole that broke where one section slides into the other.I tried twice to repair it. Both pieces were well cleaned with a stainless steel brush.I heated the area with a propane torch as hot as the would go..The rode flowed nice and smooth over the joint. It looked good, how ever when I set the flag pole back in position. The joint just broke. After looking at the breakit looks as if the weld never bonded. I thought the propane torch was suppose to be hot enough to weld thin aluminum . Not sure I would recommend this product to anyone. If anyone knows why this did not work I would appreciate knowing.

Very handy and easy to use!
Ordered this almost a year ago but never found a use for it until today. Making a faraday cage out of a Behrens trash can, but discovered that there were very small gaps in the handle that leaked water when tested. So I used the rods with a propane torch and sealed up the holes with ease. Also, these rods are conductive so they maintain the electrical isolation properties of the can! I just ordered another batch of these just to keep on hand! Very happy! :-)

Buen producto
Buen producto, impresionante. Casi como si fuera plomo pero es aluminio. Una vez que calientas bien el lugar a aplicar salen las cosas y sí sella. Volvería a comprar.

It's a great product I am sure
Unfortunately it did not work for me because the torch could not get my head for my engine hot enough I was trying to fill in a hole where the exhaust manifold Bolt goes I had a broken bolt and of course I didn't drill it's out straight but the time I noticed it was too late and I just couldn't get that spot hot enough with the torch I am sure it's a great product as I've read most of the reviews work for most people some people it did not work for as I stated before I just could not get the two to bond together
