Nürnberg's Panzer Factory Hardcover – November 1, 2013

This is a very good photographic supplement to the technical histories of the production and development of the Panther tank by authors Thomas Jentz( Germanys Panther Tank: The Quest for Combat Supremacy (Schiffer Military/Aviation History)  and Michael Green Panther (General Military) . This book contains many previously unpublished photographs of the M.A.N. Manufacturing company near Nurnberg, Germany.In the introduction, the authors state the book is more about the factory than the Panther tank, but since the majority of production there concerned the Panther tank, this work centers mostly around the Panther. The first 50 pages cover the early history of the the factory which made trucks, then Panzer Marks 1 through Mark IV.I was very pleased with the quality of the B&W photos. The majority are crisp, clear - only a few are grainy or dark, those were largely of the factory after Allied bombing raids. I would have expected a chronological photo essay showing step by step how the Panther was pieced together, but many of the pictures show the field testing of the tank. There are excellent interior photos and the results of the bombing raids are well depicted in the last few pages. The captions are good, informative and help the reader.One downside - the authors rely on secondary sources for their information - mostly from Jentz and Doyles prior works. Trustworthy sources to be sure, but something to be noted. That along with the relatively few photos of the Panther as it progressed along the assembly line make this a four star rating.A recommended addition to the library to help round out the specialized histories of Jentz or Green. The photos and information are very good. I would not recommend purchasing this book if your intent is only to build a model - no color.

It was nicely done, but lacked aerial shots of all the destruction. That would have been a nice added feature. I knew the man who was the director of that factory with his as well as the family's story of those final days before the Americans captured the city. Maybe that story could be included in the next revision

I received a fair sized book order & as usual sat down to skim through the pile of books. Unfortunately this was the top book & it took quite a while to get to the other books. I found this immensely interesting. Lots of new (to me) pictures & information. Good job guys.

This is a nicely-composed book of a subject which we modelers don't often see--the actual factory where tanks are made. Of value is the minute details of how the suspension units look without 3 inches of grime and mud on them; the various construction details and interesting photos of trials with the "clean" tanks. Nicely bound in hardcover and of impeccable photo quality.

I have the project to build a diaroma based on a workshop in a Panther factory line.This book is a Bible!

I just love these books, i have a couple of them on the same format, the repairing the Panzers and the Strabokran plus this one, there is something about these books that is so inviting, there's a small amount of text but there's also the beautiful pictures, its amazing how good the quality of cameras was 70 years ago compared to this digital stuff we have these days,as you probably know by now if you are wanting to buy this book its about the panther tank and the factory where it was built and tested.Something that i always find missing from a lot of Tank books are interior shots, this book has several and of the factory also plus some other items made and tested in the same place,i didn't buy mine from amazon but bought it somewhere else for a song but just wanted to review it and hopefully my review will help someone make a decision,so please if you like German tanks and want to see the Panther in all its glory then buy this book,you will love it!!!
