Very easy to use, expected some bubbling and other problems that I've seen from laminators in years past, but none of that appeared. Worked perfectly and fed easily every time. A bit more costly than some other brands, and worth it. I tried both 3 mil and 5 mil stock, and the 5 mil proved too thick for photos, 3 mil worked fine. Purchased for the 12.5" size. Warms up fast which is a great feature. I do a LOT of laminating. So much easier than the old rolls of sticky laminate that you prayed would go on straight and not wrinkle. Any older teacher knows that frustration. If I get 5 years out of this one it will be well worth the cost. I spent half as much for a knockoff which offered the same size and speed but didn't seal well and I was past the return when it stopped working sealing well. Will update later but at this point I'd recommend. Edit: have been using it for a while now. Quick warm up, seals well 95% of the time. I thought it would be quicker. It takes about 49 seconds for a standard sheet to process through. A bit long when I have a stack to seal. Relatively quiet. Thinking it might work like the Minc foiler without having to buy that also.** A: It might work, but according to my experience , if you want to get a better foil stamping result, it would be better to buy Minc foiler. Foil stamping is affected by temperature, speeding, pressure..etc. The normal laminators are designed for the thermal laminating pouches, not for the stamping foils. Different material requires different temperature, pressure and other conditions. Besides, Minc foiler has 4 rollers inside, while Fellowes only has 2 rollers. And I also guess Minc foiler is designed specially for its own brand stamping foil. So, if you do not have a high requirement on the foil stamping effect, just want to get a cheaper model . You may try this fellowes laminator. Otherwise , i advise you to buy MInc. foil applicator **Q: Does this unit require the use of a carrier sheet for the thermal pouches?** A: No it does not. The tolerance of the roller positions seems rather precise (you set it to the thickness of the laminate you are using), so that a carrier sheet would add extra thickness and have to be adjusted for. They do ask you to run a cleaning sheet (provided) through after several uses to pick up any stray bits of glue that might have stuck to the rollers. It seems just like a regular piece of paper to me, but maybe there is something special about it. **Q: how long does it takes take to laminate a paper ?** A: The Saturn3i laminates at a speed of 12" per minute per the mfg. Thats relatively slow. It is quick to warm up and recover, the indicator light lets you know if it is ready to feed the sheet through. I was doing extra heavy cardstock and it sealed almost to edge of the paper, which is something I had trouble with on a different brand in the past. This laminator is one I can use periodically and not have to go through the learning process all over again since it is very clear and easy to begin with!
