Desert Wisdom: A Nomad’s Guide to Life’s Big Questions from the Heart of the Native Middle East

poor, ethnic
Reminds us that Jesus was a foreign, poor, ethnic, believer: someone that nowadays would go unnoticed, be a novel spectacal to Muse over, or an object of fear and loathing. It reminds me that you'd sooner see him with "bums" speaking "commoner speak" than with billionaires of perfect elocution (though they wouldn't be excluded.)I love that this book helps me, as Mr. Douglas-Klotz might say, speak and breathe the Masters Breath to hopefully get his Spirit. Mr. D.K. is perfect for our times. His earthing, to coin a phrase, and grounding of Scripture to me returns it to spiritual hallowed soil. That place in all of us that is raw, jagged and hyper real.

Encountering wisdom through new eyes
I discovered this book a year ago ( in the library) while on retreat on a small island in Scotland and it was a real wow experience to just read some of the chapters while i was there. I wrote down a few quotes that jumped out at me and it stayed with me. When I returned to Canada I needed to buy a copy for my own collection. and have been feeding on the wisdom and the great translations of many traditions. Like having a previous way of seeing things and encountering them in a new and fresh "seeing" . I would recommend this book to anyone who is on a search to encounter their own and other traditions in a fresh new way.

Neil Douglas Klotz is a gem!
This book continues with the wisdom that Douglas Klotz brings to sacred text from the Middle East. Hw has re-translated many familiar and not so familiar passages into a language that speaks to the modern mind. I have read and re=read many of his books and love the organization and structure of this one. It truky emphasizes the idea that we are all as individuals struggling with the same questions and there is deep wisdom in the writings from all the religious teachings of the Middle East.

Wonderful, as ever.
As with all of Neil Douglas-Klotz's works, this is inspiring and refreshing. Like a drink of cool water for the soul. He has a way of expanding scripture and poetry that sheds new light while staying true to the original intent. It is a rejuvenating, heart opening experience with every read.

Wonderful
If you are reading this subject about the nomads and their culture, you will absolutely come back to this book again and again. It's a liberating book for the soul and heart and if you love the religions to understand and accept their commen origen, this book will be YOUR book. I admire the combination of intelligens and intuition and heart that I find in this book.
