No more holding the gate with my head!
Worked perfectly. I was hesitant to buy after reading some of the low star reviews but I chanced it and I'm glad I did. No more holding the gate with my head on cold days. They are smaller in diameter than my stock pistons but work just fine, even on a 35* night. Super easy install, took 15 min even with digging for tools. Remove and retain the 4 C clips holding the wrist pins in place, prop the gate with a stick and remove the pins, working one side then the other. Be sure to reinstall the upper pins first, it's easier to lift the gate up to get the lower pins to align then the uppers. I did have to take channel locks and compress (bend) the bracket on the lower piston side mount as the steel bracket is made from thicker material than stock. No big deal. I added pics, the stock piston is on the right with the larger chrome piston rod.

Ease of installation and efficiency
I just installed my new liftgate supports. Only took about 10 minutes on each side to install. These work great. Lifts automatically all the way up. These are definitely worth the money.

Strong but didn't come with brushing
Strong lift but doesn't come with bushings. If you need to replace yours you have to find some.

Fit my ‘96 4Runner with some work
Took some time, but replaced my 1996 4Runner lift gate with these. Work/fit great and almost feels easier to “lift” than the factory ones. Sidebar: I’d recommend two people for the job, or something to support the other side when changing them, got sketchy for a minute.

Restored my liftgate to factory feel again!
I was originally hesitant to purchase this due to a couple reviews stating that it was not "strong enough" to lift or hold the rear hatch open. I have a 98' 4Runnner, and my previous ones were giving out to wear when I opened the rear hatch it would sag down and I would have to hold it up with my shoulders to get anything out of the back, which got extremely annoying as you can imagine. I put these on in about 6-8 minutes and that's because I didn't know what I was doing, and I have got to say that I am absolutely surprised with the strength of the shocks. They not only hold my rear gate open, but actually lift it up as if it were brand-new from the factory. I am extremely glad I got these and am more than satisfied with the product thus far. If anything changes I will post an update but as of now I am very happy. The only thing I would change is that I wish it came with the new hardware as well. I know that it is somewhat common to come without hardware, but it would make the process that much better if it did. I can't imagine it being that much more and i wouldn't mind spending a few more dollars if it came with new hardware. I'm sure slot of you would agree. Other than that, I still give it 5 stars because I was aware of it not including hardware upon purchase.

Garbage
Failed in 9 months. Shut the backlift and heard a big hissing sound, oil all over the place and that was it.

Fits
Shipping is quick, fits 1998 Forerunner, diameter is smaller than original, it lifts the hatchback all the way to the top, the original was always cropping down and i hit my head several times, not anymore.

Aftermarket is what you get....
Noticed they Had good reviews here and also on Rockauto. When the6 arrived, I saw that they were smaller diameter than OEM that I was replacing but, OK, let’s see...Installed fairly easily and did in fact open the hatch all the way by themselves without help like the old ones needed. That was almost 3 months ago. Now that the weather here in PNW is getting cold, they need help opening all the way. Not sure if they’ve lost pressure because of construction quality or if it is the cold. They maybe fine for a vehicle in warmer climates...
