Great radio supplied with terrible earphones
I tried this initially with a pair of AKG K450 headphones, and got a great, warm sound with them. Good instrument separation and detail too.The included earphones are bad. There's no way to put it more gently. The listening experience is less engaging, the bass frequencies muted, and there's a harshness to the sound which makes extended listening uncomfortable. On the plus side, they feel a little flimsy, so might not last very long. Trust me, that's a good thing.Another drawback is the display. By default, the backlight is always on, and I see no way to change this. Although it dims after a few seconds, it's still on, and maybe more battery life could have been had between charges by changing this behaviour. In operation, the power button requires a longer press to turn the radio on or off, as a shorter press switches between FM and DAB. All the local DAB stations were found when the radio was first switched on. Reception is better than some have said, but that could be more a reflection of the strength of the local signal. The ENTER key is used to store presets, though I still haven't fully figured out how they are accessed. A longer press of the ENTER key, when listening to a preset station, changes the default language. Holding either of the tuning buttons for a few seconds on FM initiates an automatic seek for the next station. It's fairly easy to use, on the whole.Four stars, assuming you have a better pair of earphones or headphones with a 3.5mm jack available.

good sound but hopeless instructions & controls
Akai A61027 Pocket DAB/FM Radio with LCD Display. Good sound and range of channels. Big downside is that the controls and instructions are hopeless. If it is indeed possible to do everything the instructions claim they should include a flow diagram showing the sequence to press the buttons. It takes ages to scroll through the channels to find a station as these do not appear to be in alphabetical order - and once one has been found it is not at all clear how to save the channel to memory. The instructions state that by pressing the one/off and enter buttons the memory is cleared, however this appears to freeze the device. Now waiting for the battery to run right down to see if a recharge will get it working again. I would expect a lot more from AKAI.

Not impressed
Very poor item . You need a good pair of earphones or headphones with this. The earphones supplied are so quiet that you have to turn the volume to max to hear anything , and then it's not enough. The battery life is very poor. You get about 4 and half hours max before it gives up. For a company like Akai I was hoping for a much better piece of kit that this. I'll have to save up and buy a Robert's or Pure next time.

OK Radio, crap included headphones
This little DAB radio is OK but nothing to shout home about. It works only as a wired device as it used the cable as an aerial, and the sound quality is OK using proper headphones. The included headphones are utter rubbish and sound awful.Overall the controls were hard to use, I'd expect better from Akai who used to make some decent audio gear.

Neat little radio
For such a small radio the sound quality is good. I purchased this for a hospital stay but also use it in bed to send me asleep. Haven't sorted out the presets yet but otherwise I am very impressed. The recharge time is very fast when I use a power pack.
