Science for Kids Thinking Cap Activities ~ Grow Your Own Crystal Tree (Ages 12+)

If you’re selling boxes of sadness instead of helping little girls learn to love science, you would have nailed it. But, that’s not what I thought I bought. When I opened the package, the box was flattened. I thought everything inside would be ok because the contents weren’t crushed. I started the project with my daughter, who was excited for days waiting for it to get here. When we got to the part to pour the liquid into the tree base, solid crystals plunked out. FAIL! I hope whoever is responsible has children and gets to teach them about crushing disappointment just like we got to learn.

My 11 year old bought this with her own money and followed the directions exactly under parental supervision. Results were not very good.....barely grew crystals....very disappointed 11 year old!

The crystal tree did not look like the picture on the box but it was still pretty cool to watch the crystals grow. This is totally worth it if you are only paying $1 (you can find these at Dollar Tree).Here's a time-lapse video of the crystal tree growing: <[...]>

These are great. Buying multiple keeps kids busy for hours. Only thing is the price here is too high...you can get these for $1 at deals-stores.com
