A MUST READ
If you are suffering from an Eating Disorder or know some one who is, this is a MUST READ. I have battled Anorexia most of my life and this book has been AMAZING and so helpful. I have read this book so many times because it is SPOT ON when it comes to the thoughts in your head, the battle, ED and it has given me so much understanding, comfort and encouragement. It is SO reassuring to know that I am not alone or crazy in what goes through my mind, why I do or feel or struggle like I do and that it is NORMAL and COMMON for those struggling with an Eating Disorder. BUY BUY BUY this book!! I have worked with a whole team of providers, and still found this book to be the ICING ON THE CAKE for recovery!!

A must-read for those in recovery
This book helps you recognize your eating disorder's "voice" and learn to "disobey."I've read this book myself, recommended (and given) it to others in recovery, and had people in my family read it (who don't have an eating disorder but wanted to understand it better). Everyone I know who's read it has loved it.The concept of separating yourself from your eating disorder and learning to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy thoughts is VERY helpful. This reminds me a lot of what I was taught when I first went to a 12-step program for substance abuse recovery as well as the concept of "defusion" taught in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A lot of times those of us in recovery (including me) will just blindly accept every thought we have as true; I also tend to be prone to "emotional reasoning" (if it feels true, it is). This book emphasizes the importance and "how-to" of stopping this cycle. At the end of the day, a thought is just a thought; you don't have to accept it or act on it.Some family members (who don't have eating disorders) have also benefitted from this book. They said that it's really helped them understand the whole mentality of eating disorders and what I've been going through with recovery. If you don't have an ED, but have a friend or family member who does, this book will help you understand and help them better.I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you're in recovery or you're seeking to understand eating disorders better.

Excellent and a bit creepy....
Jenni personifies her eating disorder as an abusive husband and includes several other personalities. To be honest her book was a bit eerie. My ex-wife has anorexia and I have met "everyone" that Jenni talks about. I felt like someone followed my ex-wife around and recorded her thoughts. In fact several times I recognized Jenni and "Ed's" conversations and they were almost verbatim to ones that we've had. This book should be read not only by the person suffering from an eating disorder, but by their loved ones who also suffer. I wish I had read the book years ago as it is very revealing about the illness and helps explain what is going on inside their minds. The book is written in quick 2-3 page chapters and flies by like a Dan Brown novel. It's a super fast read and Jenni often mixes humor to get her point across. I have read it several times and it gets better every time!

A Blessing!
I cannot recommend this book enough! A friend handed this book to me and said "this is a good book to read"! Little did I know after reading just a few pages, I wasn't going to be able to put it down. I had to get my own copy! I enjoyed getting to know Jenni and as I read her story I was relating to her. She opened my eyes and literally changed my life... more saved my life! This is why I call this book, " a blessing"! Whether you are struggling with an "ED" or someone you know is, this book will help you beyond words. I absolutely adore Jenni Schaefer and was so privileged to meet her and have her sign my book! Now my book is even more meaningful. I still pick up this book to read because its so uplifting, inspiring and I love her honesty. So please read this book! I know it will change your life as it did mine! Thank you Jenni !!!

a MUST read for ED sufferers AND family.
When my daughter was first diagnosed with anorexia, and before we had even worked out her treatment plan, I jumped online to find info...Life Without ED was the first book I found and ordered, and before I could even read one page, my daughter claimed it, read it, and to her, it was a god-send. Jenni is so real, honest and vulnerable as she shares about her battle with and victory over ED. My daughter felt like she was reading about her own life in many way..she finally knew she wasn't the only one! and it encouraged her that there is hope. Once she started treatment, it was the ONE book each of her treatment team wanted her to read...and she already had! For anyone living through this wicked disease, this book is required reading and will keep the hope alive. Also a must for supporters, family, friends of those suffering from ED.

Excellent for sufferers and their support network alike with Eating Disorders.
The sufferer told us this was the best book she had found for explaining to others what it feels like to have an Eating Disorder. Also gave us practical ways to help a sufferer. Good format of short chapters helps take the concepts on board and some repetition of concepts at different points in the book helps reinforce them. Especially helpful section on what happens if sufferer has a relapse during recovery.

Best book on ED
This is the best book I have ever read about Eating disorders. I can only recommend it to everyone who has the same problems as I do. It will not cure you from one day to the other but it will help you on your road to recovery. Heart warming and honest, a touch of humour and never hiding the truth. Helpful tools and hints about how to go on when you struggle. I love the book and I thank Jenni from the bottom of my heart for it.
