While Britain responded to the commercial threat posed by the growing German merchant marine, there was also rivalry between the great Cunard Line and its chief competitor, the White Star Line. Against this backdrop Olympic, Titanic and Britannic were conceived. Designed for passenger comfort, they were intended to provide luxurious surroundings and safe, reliable service rather than record-breaking speed. Ironically, fate decreed that only Olympic would ever complete a single commercial voyage and she went on to serve for a quarter of a century in peace and war. Titanic’s name would become infamous after she sank on her maiden voyage. The third sister, Britannic , saw a brief and commendable career as a hospital ship during the First World War, sinking in the Aegean Sea in 1916. Review: If it’s a book about an ocean liner by Mark Chirnside, buy it. - Mr. Chirnside strikes yet again with another amazing book. Really enjoyed this one, the book had a surprising amount of photos I don’t recall having seen prior to reading. I cannot possibly state it in simpler terms, if you’re a Titanic / ocean liner buff, and a book has the name ‘Mark Chirnside’ on the cover, scoop it up and enjoy. Review: A wonderful book on Olympic and her sisters - I have truly enjoyed this book. While not begrudging the amount of press and film devoted to the horrible accident that sank RMS Titanic, it is wonderful to see this author concentrate his efforts on RMS Olympic, a nearly identical ship that served faithfully and well for decades. RMS Britannic, whose career was cut short by a WW I mine, is thoroughly covered. RMS Titanic is also well covered, though the drama of her sinking is left to the multitude of other sources available. Color is used where possible, engineering drawings, interior views, wonderful photographs, and so on abound. The text is crisp and informative. If ocean liners appeal to you, and you would like to know more about "Old Reliable," the "nice guy" ship that didn't come to a tragic end, this book will reward you handsomely. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #966,883 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #80 in Ship Pictorials #535 in Ship History (Books) #28,386 in World History (Books) | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 164 Reviews | ## Images ![Olympic, Titanic, Britannic: An Illustrated History of the Olympic Class Ships - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/613NGcmWC8L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If it’s a book about an ocean liner by Mark Chirnside, buy it. *by N***S on December 2, 2024* Mr. Chirnside strikes yet again with another amazing book. It's very advanced for my 7yr old but definitely a good buy to delve deeper into the topic for children and adults. It is a great opportunity to learn about the ships together as a family! ## Frequently Bought Together - Olympic, Titanic, Britannic: An Illustrated History of the Olympic Class Ships - The Unseen Mauretania 1907: The Ship in Rare Illustrations - The Unseen Lusitania: The Ship in Rare Illustrations --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/12737210-olympic-titanic-britannic-an-illustrated-history-of-the-olympic-class](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/12737210-olympic-titanic-britannic-an-illustrated-history-of-the-olympic-class) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-14*
