Best book on the market so far!
After much research, and purchasing several not so good books . . . I came upon this great book, which explains what to expect on your 1st airplane ride. Simple sentences, yet it explains the following: packing, checking in suitcases, cargo, security, walking the jet way to the plane, cabin, crew, listening to safety instructions, loud engines, seat belt, landing, etc. The best I found on the market so far! Prepared the little one for his/her first plane ride to Disney!

Great for toddlers
I've been prepping 2 toddlers (3 1/2 girl, and 4 1/2 year old boy with special needs). We are taking a family vacation and I needed a "social story" to help explain what would occur on their first time on a plane. This contains photographs to illustrate each step the kids will go through. It also bolds the more technical words, like "cargo hold". In the back there is a glossary of those words and next to it is a tiny version of the same photograph from the page the word is found. In the back there is also a helpful list of things to pack and not pack (explained for children) which I liked because my nephew likes clear guidelines in a list format. The only thing I found strangely absent was "turbulence." Perhaps they thought that might provoke anxiety, but I would have liked there to be a page stating what it is, and that it is totally normal. Other than that, it was just what we needed. Also, the photographs included people of different ethnicities which was nice.

Awesome to prepare your child for an airplane trip
I ordered approximately 10 different airplane books to get my 3 year old ready for our first airplane trip. Out of all the ones I ordered this was our favorite. The text is perfect for kids and gave me some really good practical things to talk with him about as we prepared, for example- don't bring anything messy- which ruled out his top choice of playdoh ;). Also explained going through security perfectly for a child. What I really liked best though was the pictures- I loved that they were actual pictures and not just illustrations. This is the book he still asks to read almost daily (2 months after our trip). If you are going on a trip, you need this book!

Kind of useless
Bought this to prep my 3-year-old for his first airplane ride, and he was very interested to read this book when it came, but about half way through, he got very bored, and we never looked at it again. The only thing that caught his attention/freaked him out was the demonstration of the emergency air masks, which almost had the effect of scaring him rather than putting his mind at ease! Really, the best thing for him was just explaining what was going to happen at the airport/on the airplane periodically over the weeks leading up to our trip. Also, The book is outdated as of 2014... (My son thought the boy's blousy 90's shirt was a robe!), and it would have been nice to have more updated info for kids on how complex airport security has become since the creation of this book.

Had to read it 5 times to my daughter the day it came
We are taking my 3 year old on her 1st plane trip and so I wanted her to know what to expect when we get to the airport. Thought it was very well written and, obviously, since I had to read it 5 times in ONE evening, she loves it. It uses real pictures vs. cartoon pictures to show them different parts of the process (i.e. packing, checking in, boarding, etc.). I do wish there were more map type pictures. For instance "the luggage goes in the cargo hold". A picture of a plane at the end just showing where different parts of the plane are with arrows would've been nice for my 3 y/o (i.e. the pilot is here, the cargo hold is here, etc.). Overall though, it accomplished what I wanted.

They knew what everything was about and acted like they flew every week
This, along with a You Tube video, had my 4 and 6 year old nephews prepared for their first flight. They knew what everything was about and acted like they flew every week. When we hit a little turbulence I told them that the fun part had begun. Kind of like the rides at the fair. They immediately decided that turbulence was fun too and not scary.

Just ok
I was not impressed with this book. The text is overly complicated, too long, and didn't hold my daughter's attention. The photos are dated and busy. This is definitely for an older child, at least 4 and up. For a child younger than 4, you will be better off with an illustrated airplane book.

Book entitled My First Trip on an Airplane
I chose this book because my granddaughter was going on her first flight. The book is nice but is in need of some updating. I have nothing else to compare this selection to and it was very helpful in this instance. However, I recommend some updating with wording and pictures. The print and colorful pictures are very nice.
