LOVED IT. Reviewers my age are wrong about the old movie, though I love it too.
The original 80s movie was one of my favorites growing up. I always thought that it should be included with other hits like Breakfast Club and Weird Science. That said, a lot of reviewers my age are putting the old movie on a pedestal, but the truth is that the old movie had plenty of defects to criticize, namely that it was a very plastic and shopping mall depiction of the 80s Punk scene. Both the new and old movie make the mistake of pretending 80s punks were listening to new age Billy Idol, The Clash, and the Cars, and not hardcore bands like Husker Du, the Misfits, Milo Goes to College, Suicidal Tendencies, and others. Any REAL 80s Punk would have head butted you for making such a characterization of them. :) ... Seriously. They would have. This movie is a cute depiction of the original MTV generation, where bands like Duran Duran, The Clash, The Police, Kajagoogoo, The Fix and others like them. I didnt have much expectations for this one, as I found it by pure accident and had not heard a thing about it, but I really liked it. It is like an 80s version of Across the Universe. The reinterpretation of the songs is excellent. I ended up buying the soundtrack and have been listening to it.

Really enjoyed it!
This was a movie (the original) my mom introduced to me many years ago after I professed my love of Nicolas Cage and remains one of my favorite movies today. She also introduced to me to Rocky Horror (my FAVORITE movie of life). So it is no shock musicals are my favorite type of movie. Combining the the classic with music was great for me! Is it slightly campy and corny, yes. Does it not "accurately" portray the true 80's, also yes. But I HIGHLY enjoyed the movie. It is a little more family friendly (teens etc) than the original. I watched with my mom and sister and really enjoyed it. Don't expect a direct copy, you will be disappointed, but the re-imagining was really great!

Totally !
I graduated Hi School in 1987. Loved the original. A classic that I own. Also loved this. Two very different movies, but with the same underlying premise. I like musicals so this worked good for me. Huge Grease fan for instance. Not sure why they changed Tommy's name to Mickey, but "what-ever" Like it was still a good flick. Haha. Plenty of classic 80's references. I particularly like the roller rink scene. It was all good. Take on Me, Under Pressure, Boys Don't Cry all classics and well done by this group of actors, plus many more.. I think one of the main ideas to keep in mind when watching this - The original was a movie made in the 80's. It didn't have the added task of trying to be an 80's nostalgia movie. It was baked in. Valley Girl 2020 takes us back, adds the music and goes about telling the story, with some differences. So in my humble opinion, you have to let the original version stand by itself and judge this rendition on its own merit with an open mind. They are not comparable, yet this movie works for todays teens (my daughter loved it) and especially for the 80's Gen x Clan, always glad to take some time to look back on the amazing 80's. Take Care

A passable remake of a teen classic
Was it necessary to remake Valley Girl? No. Is it worth it? If you're a musical fan, you'll have a good time. Jessica Rothe (La La Land, Happy Death Day) and Josh Whitehouse (The Knight Before Christmas) lead this pseudo contemporary remake, which also features an uncredited Alicia Silverstone as the story's narrator. Story-wise, it's pretty on point with the original, but has a charm of its own thanks to the chemistry between Rothe and Whitehouse, as well as the playlist of 80s tunes that we all know and love. The only downside, really, is the casting of the reason why this wasn't released two years ago, YouTuber Logan Paul, as Julie's Valley boyfriend. Admittedly, he plays to the strength of the jerk jock. And he doesn't sing... well, okay, a little. 3.5/5.

Great Movie!
This is Nicolas (Coppola) Cage in one of his way earlier roles, truly dazzling. Excellent soundtrack too. As a matter of fact I'm going to pop it in now. Being very careful to come up with a number without exaggeration - this will have to be my 25th time viewing this film. "Like, I'm so sure!" you say. My reply, "Like, totally!!"

Impressed!
I didn't really know what to expect, but I was excited to watch it because I've always been a fan of musicals, I love the story, and I've always loved some of the actors in it. Some of the musical numbers really impressed me by how they played them out through the story. I'm not a fan of all the actors, but most of the acting was really good, and I thought they all had great voices, especially the two main characters. When they release it on DVD and Blue-Ray, I will be buying it!

Like gag me with a spoon, totally.
To be completely honest, I could only watch about 15 minutes of this before it became too cringeworthy to continue - it was if they took every schlocky scene from the worst high school movies, and put them all into one horrific parody. As someone who graduated from high school in 1985, not only was I around during the the entire 80's (in Southern California no less), but saw every movie, and this was totally gnarly, to the max. I think what really convinced me that I could not waste any more moments of my life watching this was the 'promposal' mooning scene in the locker room. While mooning was still kind of a thing in the 80's, promposals were thankfully not a nightmare that had yet been invented - more often than not, invitations to dances occurred while drunk at parties, the way they should. The only redeeming quality I noticed during my brief attempt at this movie was they were using some solid quintessential 80's KROQ music (and let me guess, I'll bet Richard Blade had a cameo somewhere in this?), but it was ruined by the painful group dance scenes reminiscent of High School Musical. I suppose it's nice they were able to throw some business to an abandoned mall somewhere, but this was painful to watch, I would only recommend it to people I didn't like very much. I'm praying this was not turned into a Broadway show, or I'm going to have to sit through the live version with one of my season ticket packages when we can be around other humans again without the fear of ending up on a ventilator. Hard pass, sorry dudes.

Not so great
I loved the original movie from the 80's, and had high hopes for this one as well. Unfortunately, I watched it once and I don't think I will watch it again. It was more of a musical and not what I expected at all
