I'd go with a thicker blanket
These covers never last near as long as they say they will, so we opted to go with a lighter weight blanket after our 12 mil blanket bit the dust after about a year's usage to save some money. This one is holding up well enough so far - one seam has split about a two feet long in the middle of the blanket, but that hasn't affected it's function yet - but it is SO thin compared to the 12 mil, which actually makes it much harder to roll up neatly because it doesn't hold it's form well. Also, I feel like I have to baby it off the reel more than a thicker one for fear of tearing it as I'm pulling it down to the other end of the pool. Honestly, I'm not sure how much I'm going to bother with a pool cover after this one dies. I primarily use mine to minimize water loss and preserve chemicals (I'm in FL, so keeping a warm pool is not difficult, and a cover often makes the water too warm), but at $80-$150 a pop every one to 1.5 years, I doubt I'm really saving myself any money. But if I do buy another one, I'll go with the thicker blanket next time.

Terrible 8mil Very Thin
I can't believe this is a 8mil cover. I have bought other 8mil covers in the past and they are much better quality and a lot thicker. When we first took this out of the packing I thought they had sent the wrong size because it was so small. Once we unrolled it I could see why it was so small. It was so thin it packed in about 2/3 the packaging as other covers. I bought the 18 x 36 ft and it is stitched together in sections. I have never received a sectioned cover in the past. Pool season is only 4 months where I live so I guess we will see how long it last but I don't expect more than a season or 2 at most.Revised. As we have had this a few weeks now I can say this is the worst solar cover I have ever bought. It is very difficult to put on because it is so thin as you drag it thru the water it keeps rolling under itself instead of just floating to the other side of the pool. I have never had a cover that I could not put on by myself. You need at least 2 people so one can hold an end while someone else goes around the pool pulling it out from under itself.I would not recommend this cover to anyone. I doubt it will even last 1 short Ohio pool season. The days have been fairly warm here in the upper 80's and my pool temp has only increased to 2 degrees so it doesn't even do a good job of heating or retaining heat.I don't know where all the good reviews came from.

It disintegrated in two months
It disintegrated in two months, due to the poor quality. It took ten days for the supplier to ship it. I received it mid April this year and put it over our pool in May. Within two months the pool cover has holes in many places. My husband has been patching them up with waterproof tapes all over the cover, some holes are one foot long. Almost everyday there are new holes, my husband told me. Finally, we asked for refund, the supplier refused, because "it was over 30 days", it is not reasonable! I am very disappointed with the poor quality product and the unreasonable service. I will never buy the same product ever again. In addition, the pool cover is peeling off in thousand tiny pieces into the pool. We need to remove the cover, otherwise they would clog our pool filters and create expensive damages.

Quality has dropped (much thinner this year, Apr 2018)
My husband has been ordering these solar covers every 2 years and he was disappointed with his most recent order because he said the quality of the cover is noticeably different - thinner and will not be as durable as other covers he has ordered. But we are stuck with it. We ordered it April 2018 FYI.

Excellent heating
This is my third solar bubble cover for my large pool. I replace it after a year since they really aren't durable... don't believe the warranty. However, of the the covers i have used, this one is heating my pool way better than ther others. I don't know why. Ice tried the 12 mil and 8 mil. The 12 was not more durable, didn't heat better, and was just more difficult to manage. I liked the other 8 mil (different brand, but looked the same) , but my pool is consistently warmer with this one, despite the cooler summer thus far. Great for preventing evaporation as well. I haven't been using the heater at all and it's consistently in the high 80s and even low 90s when we have warm sunny days. My kids know how top pull it off and on and it's well worth not paying too great the pool. At the end of the season, i use them for a giant slip and slide.

Amazing what a sheet of plastic can do! Shame it’s disposable
I'm in Southern California. I'd been looking to put passive heating into our pool to help avoid having to heat it. Each time I heat it another $12 would appear on the gas bill. I was looking at several hundred for the passive elements and the re-piping, and building a frame etc etc.So before doing this I thought I'd try a solar pool cover. This one feels pretty heavy duty.Fitting it wasn't too bad but did need multiple people to hold it and trim it. It's not perfect now but covers all the pool and that's the main thing.I cannot believe how warm it has made our pool. I also have a lacrosse pool thermometer with a WiFi app. With outside temperatures hitting 80F in the day, but dropping to 65F at night it is maintaining the pool at over 88F all the time.I have not yet bought a reel so we take the cover off by rolling it back into folds. When it's off the pool we keep it stored out of the sunlight. It also keeps a lot of debris out of the pool. So scooping takes way less time.If this thing lasts me a couple of years it will have paid for itself AND massively extended the pool use season.UPDATE: June 2020. It lasted just over 2yrs before disintegrating in the pool. Most of the time it wasn’t actually on the pool, it was stored, financially it probably did pay for itself, but I also have a trash can of plastic now.
