Aimed at retirees and near-retirees in the U.S. and Canada, this book's strategies apply just as well to younger people and people with families who are looking for ways to improve their quality of life while at the same time lowering their cost of living. It includes solutions for the challenges of continuing to work and earn money abroad, too. As long-time contributors to the acknowledged leader in the field, International Living , authors Suzan Haskins and Danย Prescher have at their disposal more than thirty years of International Living experience and expertise in the topic. They've been writing about living overseas for more than 12 years and have created their own broad and deep body of work, including regular blogs on the topic for Huffington Post and AARP. The authors include information and strategies that can be successfully applied by anyone regardless of their political or economic opinions. For anyone who wants a happier, healthier, more affordable life, The International Living Guide to Retiring Overseas on a Budget shows you how to enjoy the romance and excitement of living abroad on an affordable budget.

Don't Be Afraid to Retire. The Dream May Still Be Possible.
Simplictic and enticing introduction to how to have a whole new advernture living outside the U. S. during our retirement years on a smaller budget than it probably takes. I wish I had been younger when I was first introduced to this information. I would have looked into this more carefully had I been at the front end of my retirement years, and not already in my mid-term. With the turmoil both here and elsewhere in the world, it makes so much sense to live our (old) retirement dream where now it may still be possible. Take a look! I doubt actually doing it is any more risky than staying here, ten years from now.

AN EXCELLENT GUIDE FOR MOVING ABROAD!
I have been researching about moving abroad for some time and thought I knew pretty much of what I needed to know. However, I was pleasantly surprised there were many beneficial and important bits of information, some of which I had not even thought about.I felt it was well written and researched. Sometimes (not many) I found some topics could have gone into more depth. I would recommend this book for anyone thinking about or planning to move overseas. It gives a very realistic view of what to expect, both the good and the not-so-good.Also, it needs to be mentioned that both of the authors have spent many years living abroad in several destinations. They are both very seasoned travelers and the reader can feel confident and comfortable relying on their information. It was an interesting and enjoyable read.

The Book is Ok, the Magazine? I don't know .. yet!
So the book is just ok, bought it used cheap , just a good starter its more of an overview and does not get into any specifics plus its old. I have looked at some places they say where "you can get great deals on homes"- eh... not necessarily. It is all dependent on where and since its a foreign country, we don't know if its safe etc in that specific area.Like most books, its a what you can do.. but it is Not a How To Book.If one thing holds true is we get what we pay for, cheap house- cheap area? Maybe not such a good deal. Also, as a side note I subscribed to their magazine in Jan, no issues yet. Emailed them twice asking when will the magazine arrive? No reply, Also International magazine tries to nickel and dime upsell you on everything, some of the things they are pushing cost up to $500 . For me, they can't answer about a magazine subscription? No way they are getting $500 out of me.

A must read for extended travel or potential living overseas
I received my book this week. I finished Chapter 8 before I went to bed that first night. I love it. It is so well written and interesting and informative. Iโm even reading about the countries that Iโm not really interested in ever living or visiting. I canโt wait to get to the end of the bookโฆbut Iโm not going to do any skipping as I donโt want to miss anything. I canโt imagine anyone not liking/loving this book. Thanks so much for your expertise and sharing. I think the other thing that is so impressive is that you don't try to "SUGAR COAT" any aspects of living or traveling overseas. It's after all not the United States, and you provide information supporting why things can and well be different.in the various countries.

Start your research here -- even if you already think you know where you want to live overseas
Given the scope of countries covered, there is a lot of good information here. Also, good advice for things one might not think of before deciding where to live. Many of us (myself included) have a fantasy of living on or right next to a beautiful tropical beach. The authors encourage us to consider whether we will enjoy that same beach throughout the year -- even at its buggiest, hottest and most humid; or whether that charming village is as quiet (roosters? motorcycles? nonstop parties) as we might imagine. They suggest we consider the isolation that a language barrier can create; and they survey the differing cost and quality of medical care from country to country. This is only some of the planning advice offered by the authors, who have lived abroad for years in various places. This book is an excellent place to start thinking about and researching living abroad.

Looking for a better Life
I was looking for a comprehensive book that gave facts as well as individual experiences...I also have their magazine," International Living" that comes to my home... this publication develops in this same way...facts mixed with stories from expats, that are in the "now" of actually living in another country and finding that the problems that do arise are fixable. All this information aids in making this important change to my life. Maybe my future is unknown...still undecided of where ...with whom I will share this adventure. Feeling that...All... things are possible...A big Thanks to Suzan Haskins for her research and life experiences that make this book a must have. One that anyone who is serious about making this positive forward moving step.. into the unknown...can see the value... that this book makes in your search for you own 'path of Happiness" in another culture and land...well, having knowledge reduces the stress...so Thank You So Much for your words of wisdom...Smile!!! Sincerely Kathy Andrews

Great reading! Answers a lot of questions I had and many that I did not... Instead of getting my info in bits and pieces on the internet, here it is all in one book. A great starting point for those considering retirement in those most recommended countries.

Mid-40s parents loved it!
I bought this book for my parents who are in their mid to late 40s. Suddenly, planning for retirement ceased being totally exhausting and worrisome, and became fun! My dad - who takes over a year to read a book he's interested in - read the whole book in about 3 days and is pressuring my mom to get on with reading it too. The book offers a lot of inspiration, a fairly wide scope of potential retirement destinations, as well as essential information that will convince you just how attainable a fulfilling retirement overseas actually is. Living in France is no longer a momentary dream for my parents but a tangible reality, and the International Living ideas and resources can be quite helpful in bringing your visions to life. The books can be light on specifics at times and a lot of the information can be found through the International Living website and newsletters. So if you're strapped for cash, do keep that in mind before deciding to purchase the hardcover book. If you can spare the money though or would like to inspire someone else, this is definitely a worthwhile purchase.I would recommend this as a great starting point for someone who is planning their retirement and wants to approach it as a new and amazing phase in their life. It could be the key.
