Appears to be a quality item
After years of taking apart my sink's tailpiece to remove clogs the threads finally stripped on the old one. The local hardware store had a small selection to choose from. After trying and returning a couple of them, I ordered this one. It's made much better than the others, and has a long throw on the stopper, which I hope will help with clogs.Unfortunately, it came in an unmarked plastic bag, without instructions. Since I had replaced several of them recently, I knew roughly how it goes together. However, not all tailpieces go together the same way. An exploded diagram would have been nice. You will also need some plumber's putty to get it to seal properly to your basin. Some kits don't need it, but this one does.

Missing part
The packaged arrived in a day, but it's missing the stopper. I contacted Moen's customer service. The support rep said they will ship it, with delivery expected in 7-10 days OR I could pay for an expedited shipment via FedEx. Seems they could pay to expedite shipping themselves as a way to make up for their own error.

Outside threads vs inside threads
Our existing pipe broke, the piece that is shown in gray in the picture. I went to a big box store and got what I thought was a replacement. Turns out that some drain assemblies have the threads on the outside of the gray piece with the threads on the inside of the silver piece above it to screw in together, and some assemblies have the threads on the inside of the gray piece and outside the silver piece. Our existing drain has the threads on the outside of the silver piece which means I needed threads on the inside of the grey piece since that was the only part that needed replacing. This assembly has threads on the INSIDE of the grey piece. So if you only need to replace that part, make sure you get the one that is appropriate for your silver piece. This was the right part for me. There are NO instructions in the bag it comes in. I recommend you look at an existing drain assembly to see how it's supposed to fit together and which order to properly assemble. Once you figure that out it works great. No leaks at all.

Easy for even me, and sealed well.
I had never done any "plumbing" work around the house. But, when drain openers weren't doing the trip, I ended up taking apart the pipes underneath the bathroom sink. I was afraid I may have cracked the drain assembly when I took it out, and didn't want to take a chance on putting it back in. I ordered this one. It was inexpensive, and fit and sealed well. The only thing I would improve is to include instructions, or a diagram of how it's supposed to go together. I kept questioning myself, thinking I'd done it wrong and taking it apart only to realize I was right the first time.

This is as good, or better than
Do you have that sinking feeling, Bunkey? This is as good, or better than, the Moen original part in the home when I bought it. Also, it is possible, if the rod moving the stopper up and down broke off, to only replace the rod and its ball. Unscrew the thumb nut, and see if the replacement part fits snugly in place. If so, install the rod into the stopper and the drop rob, put a bucket under the drain, and run the sink hard. You could fill the sink all the way up with the stopper down, lift the stopper, and see if the new part leaks. If so, start over and replace the whole drain unit. Be sure to get some plumbers putty to add under the lip of the drain top ring. Do not trust only the rubber washer.

COULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER ITEM
The Extension that controls the plunger has a inner threaded attachment that is about one inch deep or less and only has 3 rows of threads for a metal drain that has 75+ threads. PROBLEM: The limited number of threads on the plastic adapter are not enough depth for it to securely tighten on the metal drain. I tried to use plumbing tape but eventually stripped out the 3 threads and has no way to keep water from leaking. I am now having to order a different style that is less costly that has the plunger lever built into the metal drain itself and shaft extends as one piece into the PVC "P" trap. Moen needs to rethink this item with a much better "One Piece" or longer, better matching lever and plunger design. Wasted a lot of time on this. Sorry Moen, I have used many of your better products and respect your products in general.

The one you should choose
This is the one you want. Moen quality - do I need to say more. I screwed around with those 3rd party plastic ones for a while - do not bother. This one was actually cheaper and 500% better. As long as the dimensions fit, you will not be disappointed.

Perfect fit.
I used this to replace the existing Moen drain assembly. Time had ruined the finish on the original chrome.

Works as described
There's no installation manual or any manual at all, but not a real issue by following YouTube. Have been using it for a few weeks. It looks good with chrome finishing.

Good quality
Good quality name brand drain assembly. Comes complete with seals and gaskets. No problem installing and the drain plug mechanism functions smoothly. Did not experience any leaks.
